What Million Dollar Homes Look Like.
« on: February 25, 2015, 05:53:48 PM »
I always knew I would live in a million dollar home...just didn't think it would be the Fremont CA house that I paid $176,000 for and sold for $242,000 in the 80"s.   Here is a good study of what a difference a low COL area looks like vs a high COL area.

Recent sale of a one bedroom cottage in my neighbourhood. $1,020,000. Ripe for demolition!

I think my Prius C would get a lot more use in many of those areas... that or I'd get an electric car

Many many many million dollar homes in my neighborhood are purchased and then bulldozed.  Then a developer spends $300k-$500k to build a new home, sells it the next year for $2-$3 million.  This is near DC, 22101 and 22207.

How about a 7-bed, 9-bath 10,000 square foot mansion with a ballroom for just $739K?

GuitarStv, you beat me to it. Crackshackormansion.com is the best illustration as to how stratospherically out of control Vancouver real estate has become. Though I will admit, sky rocketing  home equity has boosted my NW number handsomely. Still ridiculous though...

Sometimes I get a little jealous of other people's earnings in this forum. But the brand new, $85/square foot home in a good neighborhood goes a long way to make up for it. (Charlotte, NC)

The house in which I grew up is valued at $1.2 million today. It's a 2000 square foot, 4-bedroom home on 0.20 acres of land on a ridge above Honolulu, built in the early 70s. The rooms are small, the bathrooms are tiny, but the land is worth a fortune, even if it's not a lot of land.

My sister's house is a 2000 square foot, 4-bedroom home on 0.25 acres of land in San Antonio, Texas, built in the early 2000s. They bought it a couple years ago for $167,000.

The only thing on the market under a million right now in Palo Alto (where I work) is a 1 bedroom condo that is something like 500 ft^2.

I take back everything I have ever thought about Ottawa's high house prices.  Although Ottawa is a High COL compared to here.

My house was $35k and looks MUCH better than most of those Vancouver houses.  Thanks for the link, funny and scary!

Wow, that article makes me feel a lot better about how much I paid for my modest house in NJ.  Livingston is a pretty expensive area, but here where I live is relatively better price-wise and nearly as nice in terms of amenities.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
