What is your Enneagram?
« on: June 11, 2020, 08:43:31 AM »
In an older poll, more than 30% of voters in the MMM forum identified as INTJ in the Myers-Briggs assessment.

I'm curious as to whether there is a similar correlation with the Enneagram personality test.

A free test can be taken at the following link (I have no affiliation): https://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/test

Type 6, Loyalist and 9, Peacemaker were tied for me. It said taking Wings into account I'm a 6w5. Fun little test. I'm sure it means nothing.

The analysis accurately describes me for I am am indeed a judicious rationalist as well as a nonconformist. On some issues though, I am not optimistic.

"Taking wings into account, you seem to be a 1w9 or 8w7."

Enneagram Type 1w9 (The Optimist)

People with a type one wing nine personality tend to be judicial and rational in their behavior, but are generally more calm and balanced than other type ones. They usually have a desire for justice and equality and can see both sides of an issue easily. They are motivated by a strong sense of right and wrong.

Enneagram type 8 wing 7 (The Nonconfomist)

People with an Enneagram type eight wing seven personality tend to identify most with the eight type, but share many attributes with the seven type, as well.  They tend to be self-confident, sociable, and pragmatic in their behavior. They are ambitious and independent, preferring to follow their own path. They are generally more comfortable with conflict than eights with a nine wing.

Types 2 and 5 were tied at a "9" for me. Helper and Investigator. It suggests my wing type is 1 - the reformer. I would agree with most aspects of these results.

It can be useful as a behavioral psych tool, kind of like the concept of love languages.

I did a bunch of these tests last year for an assignment in a class I was taking. They all seem to correlate.
Enneagrams: 5 (same as half the people that reported). My "wings" were balanced.
Myers Briggs:   INTP or INTJ depending on which website I use +common around here too)
Clifton Strength finder: ideation, input, analytical, intellection, strategic

These tests are interesting up to a point but I wouldn't base any decisions on my or someone else's score.

1w2 > 5w6.

From the descriptions I'd say it's fairly accurate.  INTJ/INTP for Meyers-Briggs.

Type 2-helper.

"Helper" is a good fit for a former social worker.

You are most likely a type 5.
Taking wings into account, you seem to be a 9w1.

Type 5 - 4
Type 9 - 3.7
Type 1 - 3
Type 3 - 2.7
Type 2 - 2
Type 7 - 2
Type 6 - 1.4
Type 4 - 1
Type 8 - 0.7

Meyers-Briggs I'm usually tied between INFJ and INFP.

I found the Enneagram test to be pretty transparent. Remembering how I answered, it directly translates into the top 3 "types" scored.

5w6 here too.  Seems to be a popular type among Mustachians.  Though when I read their descriptions, I'm like "damn, am I that negative"?  They aren't exactly the most touchy-feely of personality types.

3W2.  ENFP for the Myers-Briggs so it lines up fairly well.  Still doesn't mean anything.

Type 3 - 12
Type 2 - 9.7
Type 8 - 8.4
Type 7 - 8
Type 9 - 8
Type 4 - 7.7
Type 5 - 6.7
Type 6 - 6.7
Type 1 - 3.4

This should be interesting to see if it changes in the future.
Enneagram
Type 9 - 7.7    The Peacemaker, keeping peace and harmony
Type 1 - 7
Type 2 - 6.7
Type 6 - 6.7
Type 3 - 5.4
Type 4 - 5.4
Type 5 - 5.4
Type 8 - 1       The Challenger, taking charge because they don't want to be controlled
Type 7 - n/a    The Enthusiast, pleasure seekers and planners in search of distraction

Looks like it's a hard No for type 7&8, but somewhat spread through all the rest. Seems on point.

This topic keeps popping up in various aspects of my life and social media. Maybe because many of us have more free time?

(I'm a type 3. It's useful for identifying behavior and thought patterns but not any of the mystical stuff that some writers attribute to it.)

I got Achiever, but it doesn't sound like me at all. It's all about being desperate for approval and being seen as the "best". Meanwhile, I'm well known for being very, very comfortable with being disliked. I get how my answers got there though. I answered from the perspective of being in a leadership role, and in that context, I care deeply about how I'm perceived by the people I'm responsible for. I still don't care if they like me, but I care deeply that they respect me.

My other really high score was Type 2, which is the helper, and that fits much, much better. I'm trained as a helper in multiple professional capacities, my management style focuses on helping staff with whatever support they need, and I basically can't stop myself from helping anyone who needs it. Most of my biggest professional opportunities came out of me trying to help people for free.

In Myers Briggs, I'm an ENFJ, which is basically a helper-leadership personality, which fits me well. I like to be in charge because I like to be in control of how people are treated, not because I give a shit about whatever status comes with being in charge, which is why I prefer the #2 role instead of the top dog role. I like someone else to be the ego, but who gives me enough space and autonomy to keep the troops happy.

The descriptions of 3-Achiever are variable. If a description doesn’t talk about a propensity to be a “human doing” (rather than human being; I.e., keeping busy to avoid emotional engagement) and a visceral fear of failure because that failure would call into question their entire concept of self-worth, then it was probably written by someone without a good understanding of the type. Classic Type-A personality is a better descriptor. We’re prone to self-imposed overwork and burnout because we “prove” our worth by being productive and useful.

I don’t care whether most people like me. I care that they respect me, my work, my time, and my authority (where relevant) and give me credit for my work.

8 wing 7... which has seemed pretty spot on in past work with this assessment.

ENTP or INTP for M-B... depending on the day I flip E/I but the rest stay the same

Ideation, Input, Activator, Learner, Context... Strengths is the tool I like the most. I facilitate it in my job. I find it easiest to apply and harness, as well as help others see where they can apply it

Yeah, I don't feel like an A type really, and I don't relate to any fear of failure either, at least not for myself. I'm concerned if my personal failure negatively affects others I am responsible for though. I'm highly motivated by responsibility for others.

As for drive and burnout, I've only ever dealt with that kind of pressure due to being in hundreds of thousands of dollars of student debt. Once my debt was under 6 figures, my DGAF factor went through the roof.

Now that we don't need me to make any amount of income, I'm still pretty driven, but not to succeed necessarily. I'm driven by my degree of interest in a project. What interests me in a project is how much positive impact it can have on people, and how much I like the other most senior people involved and think we'll have fun tackling the challenge together.

I'm far more concerned with enjoying what I'm doing than achieving some metric of success. If I'm not enjoying it, then it's not a success.
