Yesterday, a couple friends and I wanted to have dinner together. We had a picnic. It was fun, and cheap!  (Today I'm going over to another friend's place to have tea and maybe play a video game we both have.)

Recently, I went camping with a group of friends. Most expensive part was a wild cave tour, but it was worth it!  And the camping/hiking was free.

Yesterday I went to a tour of the remodeled conservatory in the park. The tour was led by a docent and was put on by a meetup group. After the tour I walked around the park and looked at all the beautiful Craftsman bungalows. Plants and old houses--a visual feast. Cost was $1.00 for the bus because it was free day at the conservatory. Then I had took the bus over to the beach and walked along the shore, looking at all the ferries out on the water. Another buck, and I was on my way home.

Went to the book club w/ my wife after we both read the books for the month.  We met in the party toom of a local restaurant, so we bought a rootbeer, salad and an app.  Cost less than $20 for the two of us, plus we had a great time w/ friends discussing our library books.

Tonight we are watching an art film DVD from the library, and having real popcorn popped on the stove, drizzled w/ real butter. Cost <$.50.

Did I mention we love the library?

There are lots of free events in the city near me.  On Wednesday, I went to a jazz piano and bass concert in one of the most beautiful concert halls around.

I don't know if it counts, but there are few thing more gratifying to me than 2-3 hours spent writing outside in the sun. It costs only paper, ink, and (of course) coffee.

Book clubs are also fun and reasonably frugal. If I bring wine, it's $10. If I bring home-baked cookies, it's nearly free.

This past week was absolutely great for hiking.  (Hooray, Spring has sprung!)  So I got in 3 wonderful ones on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

And a free choral recital at the local college on Sunday afternoon provided the week's frugal "cultural" entertainment.

What frugal things I have done lately?

Yeah well despite this being Eastern holiday today I went back and fort to the capitol area from Turku city area...

I travelled with Onnibus that is chepest way to travel. Normal bus would cost 55 euro and this bustrip cost me 16 euro(back and forth so both ways together costs) roughly...  I showed a renting apartment and signed a contract with a new renter.

New rent is
12 months contract: 771 euro+14 euro adult mother water cost+14 euro water 2 year small boy water costs=799 euro including water/month+they make own electricity contract+take large home insurance for the apartment they rent+they pay me rent deposit(insurance has self risk etc,). The woman is divorced from her husband.

Interesting she is very beautiful the most beautiful renter I have had so far a 29 year old mother of a single child.

Right now I am sitting at Onnibus on my way back Helsinki to Turku and using the bus WIFI(wireless Internet) for free.

I would say it is pretty frugal that I don't buy a car despite the fact I have driving license and that I sacrifice one day of Eastern Holiday to show apartment and sign renting contract. I don't give the keys before I see the rent deposit money in my account so tomorrow evening I will travel and give the keys...

I HATE my so called "workplace" that has SHIT salary... and tomorrow day I need to be there during the day...

Finally my country has 30% tax for all rental income, but tax is taken from gross income so first they reduce apartment basic running costs etc, but still high tax.

Went to a free blues band performance at a winery.
It was VERY good!  A very nice combo of blues, jazz and rock.  Mostly done by 4 guys - obviously local as a LOT of people said 'hi' to them.
I was very impressed with the lead singer and guitarist - very nice voice and played such a variety (all done well) on one guitar.
They had a guest singer for a couple songs, then a guest drummer, guitarist and a harmonica player.
Cost me $5 for a glass of wine.
I would have liked a better selection of wine sold by the glass, but the wine I had was quite good.

Paid $6 at the dump today to toss my minimal household trash.  Picked up a broken cast aluminum BBQ grill off the pile.  Will recycle the BBQ for ~$10.  To me, it's fun to get paid to go to the dump.  ( <--- that guy is weird...)

The Hub and I celebrated Easter by walking to the grocery store where he had a donut decorated like an Easter basket and a Sr. coffee.  I wasn't hungry but I did eat the chocolate eggs of his donut (he doesn't like chocolate) just to mark the holiday and have a couple of sips of his coffee.

We were the recipients of the neighbors largesse.  They decided to stay home & keep working in the yard, and gave us their tix to a traveling broadway show last night on campus.  So we went to the free show, had a good time.  We did buy a big sandwich & salad at a deli to share, so there was a $14 cost.  Here's the really weird thing that happened: While I'm sitting at the front window absentmindedly watching the college girls local residents walking by, I observe something come fluttering down out of the sky.  It looks like a credit card?  The kids on the street are walking over it, so I step outside to investigate.  It is a Discover gift card.  Apparently tossed out a window of one of the apartments above.  I sit back down inside w/ the card prominently displayed at the front edge of the table, just inside the window for anybody to see.  Nobody appears to be looking for anything while we finish eating, so I take the card home.  An online balance check shows it has a $5 cash balance.  So I got $5 off groceries today.

Is this a sign that there may be some truth to the BS stuff about believing you deserve more money will make it so?  Oprah said it is true, so it must be.

I am also a big fan of our local library system.  Free kids' programming, borrowing books, borrowing e-books, DVDs (haven't done DVDs yet as the first three keep us busy.)

We are just starting to get nice weather, so family walks around the neighbourhood. Kiddo really loves people watching.  We tried out the see-saw at the nearby park - very cute reactions. :)

Participating in this forum, obviously. ;)

I went hiking and picnicked with a friend on Saturday (hooray nice weather!). It rained the rest of the weekend, so I enjoyed some Scrabble, people-watching, creating writing, and cooking on Friday and Sunday.

ETA: Total cost: $3 for the coffee when people-watching and writing, maybe a dollar for the ingredients to cook my contribution to the picnic, and electricity to drive to and from events (I have a Leaf). Cooking was free or cost-saving since I was cooking healthful meals for the week from scratch.

We competed in our Battle of the Books competition on Saturday!  We were second to a hardcore group of ladies that we deserved to lose to (they had read each book twice and had assigned an "expert" for each book.  wowza!  also, over half of the winning group is retired :-P)!

what a blast!

Went to the beach on Friday after work and Saturday with the kids. Built sandcastles and splashed and kicked the ball, and finished it off with ice cream.

Last night, we had a really enjoyable dinner at home with my SO and our paying guest: bottle of rose, spaghetti bolognese, spinach and feta and chick pea salad, interesting and fun conversation.

At least once a week, we go to the library.

Free books, free movies, free music, free audiobooks.

We used to go to Red Box and spend a buck for a movie, but I've found that I just couldn't justify the high cost.  :)
