A different take on this- I just "locked up" a pension which provides me an income equivalent to a 4%swr on 2 million dollars with a COLA, healthcare, etc. I feel like I have "banked" the 2 mil along with personal investable assets just north of 600k. I know I haven't saved a million yet but it sure feels that way and we are still working towards saving a million ourselves as a goal.
When I locked in the pension the wife and I celebrated with a nice steak dinner with friends. I have since told the boss that I am retiring at the end of the month. Can't describe the elation.
NICE!  I'm in the same boat in 3 1/2 years, and can't fucking wait. I will sure as hell celebrate (maybe with a trip to Colorado to smoke a big, fat joint) when I cross that eligibility mark (which will be my FI date, and likely be my RE date as well).
