What's your post-FIRE existence look like?
« on: August 03, 2016, 10:22:39 AM »
The big day has arrived! You've put in your notice, you'll be leaving the work force as you currently know it and be starting your post-FIRE existence! What's that look like to you?

Will you be picking up a part time job? Working that side-hustle? Traveling the world? How about just kicking back and enjoying your family or your favorite hobbies?

What do you think is a realistic portrait of your post-FIRE existence? I know the future is unpredictable and no one has a crystal ball, but while we're reaffirming each other's ability to do this lets share a bit about why we're doing this.

OP, is this thread for people who are FIRE'd or for people who aren't FIRE'd and are planning to? If it's the latter my answer is that I'll probably be walking around in shock for a long while.

First on the agenda is a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail.

After that some R&R, PT work, while getting an RV ready for a year long journey across the USA & Canada visiting many national parks and friends along the way.

After that, slow travel through Europe, SE Asia, and South America.

That's as far as I've planned.

Plans change, maybe I'll work till I die.

Well I have no kids yet but I'm sure a lot of time will be spent with them. Every summer we'll have an RV and go tour the great parks of the nation. I'll spend my time figuring out how to make money doing odd buying and selling low time high return things that I do already just not as much. (will just be extra fun/charity money in fire not relied on).  Cooking. Fixing things around the house. Lots of travel when the kids are gone. And while they are in school.

I meant this more as a post for people who haven't FIRE'd yet - to see how they envisioned life after work to be.

I've been ER/FI for about 5 years and I must say what I love the most is waking up everyday and not having to be anywhere.

I look so forward to beginning all over again where I do not have to try and cram living life into the remains of the day...

Have you ever heard of the "Great Loop"? Google it. We're going to do that in a trawler.
