Anyone ever use a tattoo removal?
« on: July 17, 2017, 01:55:44 PM »
Looking to get a 3inch x 2inch tattoo removed from my ankle. Leaving it is not an option, i want to rid myself of this stupid mistake.  I'm looking for information about:

are there different ways to get it removed, which is best?
does the process work?
how long does it take (days, weeks, months)?
how much can I expect it to cost?
does it hurt?

Any information would be helpful.

I have read that it takes multiple laser treatments and leaves an ugly scar. I would consult with a medical professional that uses the procedure about what to expect, cost, etc.

Do you have any interest in a cover up? It might be cheaper and less painful.

Unless the tat is very dark, cover up by a tattoo artist who specializes in cover ups is a much better bet.  Tattoo removal is more expensive, more painful, and more visibly unappealing.  It leaves an ugly bubbly scar that you will forever be explaining as much as any old tattoo.  Better to get a well executed cover up of something appealing to you.

I've just been thinking of this as well! Mines not offensive to anyone but me but I've wanted to get rid of it for about 10 years. I figure that counts as waiting long enough.

I've had 4 sessions using the picosure laser for removal.  There are different lasers, two at least, I believe different colors work best with different lasers.  For example, the pico laser has been removing the red color the slowest for me.  Even so, my tattoo is very faded,  and there has been no scarring at all.  It does hurt, but I read an article recently that there is a new patch that you can cover the tattoo with before lasering..... supposedly the laser still goes through and does its thing, without the pain and reducing/preventing scarring for those who are prone to that.  Due to pregnancy I can't get treatments for a while, but I think 2-3 more sessions will have it virtually gone.

My wife had laser tattoo removal back in 2004-2005. There is no obvious scarring. It did hurt, and she had to keep it bandaged until it healed. I think it took about 8 sessions spaced about a month apart to remove. I think each session was about $300. It was just black lines and covered maybe 2"x2".  No colors or large patches of black.

I think the length of time it takes to remove will vary based on how deep the ink is and how colorful the tattoo is also. They have to use different wavelengths of laser for different colors. I'm sure that modern lasers are probably more effective and the procedure may even cost less since the technology is more widespread now. I can't speak on currrent prices. Google can probably help with that.

Fortunately, we live in a age where the tattoos can be removed pretty easily as an outpatient procedure. The removal will hurt a little bit and probably cost way more than the tattoo, but at least you can get it removed and move on with your life.
