Stupidest thing?

New Volkswagen GTI with performance upgrade, and a stage 1+ ECU tuning upgrade. Total cost probably around 30k! It is a lot cheaper than what you would spend on an Audi with the same performance, 40-50k. Oh, and with the upgrades all new tires, new brakes, and fuel(premium) would cost more as well.

I won't do it, but that doesn't stop me from looking.

Current car: worth about 4k, no loan, no collision or comprehensive insurance(just liability), decent gas mileage(30 highway), and somewhat fun to drive.

Anytime I consider a new car I do math, and math tells me how much longer I would have to work as a result... and then my little car becomes the greatest car on Earth. :)

We actually ordered a new [2015] GTI in late 2014. When the car arrived in early 2015 the manufacturer price had risen, there were several dealer options added that we hadn't asked for, and there was a random marketing(?) fee. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I think after negotiation they were still wanting at least $1k more than we had expected when we initially ordered the car. We walked.

I'm so glad we didn't buy that car. With our new work/living situation we wouldn't use it nearly enough.

The NES Classic Edition.  It's hard to get your hands on and I've just decided I'm going to use an emulator on my laptop for free.  I can get a $7 USB controller and it should be about as good as the real deal and 10% the price.

Yeah - the 1 meter cord length killed it for me. What the hell am I going to do with that?

I'm lusting after a Phoenix Yellow Acura Integra Type R. Such an amazing car from my HS/College days.

New surfboard; CI added a new Tuflite model that id like to add to the quiver.  I've got 7 boards already though and they're getting harder to hide from the wife so this might not happen...

I really want to buy two (not one, but two!) high resolution 25 inch computer monitors (~$300 each, maybe cheaper during black friday?). I could deduct them as expenses and erase some of my self employment income this year?!

$40 pineapple doormat. I'll probably buy it if it goes on sale after Christmas.

Also a $5k sofa which I may eventually buy as I've been looking at the same one for more than 5 years now and still want it. It goes on sale at least once a year for 50% off so maybe next sale (I have been telling myself this for years haha).

I am also lusting after at Porsche 911 Turbo S. If I could afford that, I could also afford to quit my job and escape the ninth circle of Satan's shite-pile in Hell (I refer of course to SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA)

Upon my exit from the HELL A area, I would put the hammer on that thing down so hard, the earth would probably fly out of its orbit from the centrifugal force of everone's head spinning in the same direction.

We had one for a couple of days last week (perks of my husband's job).

This Porsche is my dream car and it's a mere $200,000+ depending on options.  It is what I have lusted after for years (and it doesn't even have a radio or power windows).  Alas, I'll probably never own it but I can dream.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/2016-Porsche-911-GT3-RS-PLACEMENT-626x382.jpg

The GT3 RS makes a lot less sense practically, but a lot more sense financially.

Ha. I figure if I still want something that badly after a few years, it's time to get it.  I'm sure it'll be even more enjoyable then you imagine!

I have wanted this for years and it just keeps getting better tech wise and accessory wise. It would create a big problem in that I don't have the vehicle to transport it or the space to store it.

I'm not lusting after anything right now.
There are a few things that I want and may or may not get, but it's not lust for sure.

1. New couch.  Current couch is broken and is/was uncomfortable to begin with. I will probably be buying new couch during Christmas sales.  It's not lust.  It's a want.

2. New purse.  I am a purse snob.  My current every day Coach purse is dead.  It looks horrible.  It's old.  And I am actually embraced to carry it around. But it extremely comfortable and is just right in terms of size and features/design.  I tried to replace it with cheap under $50 purse, but I hate the feel of cheap purses.  They feel wrong to the touch.  On top of that I haven't seen the style that I would love enough to get right now.  I even looked at Coach again, but they don't have a style I like in their current collection.  In any case, in a choice between spending $750 on new purse or $800 on new couch, I'll buy a couch.

3. Christmas decorations.  I am left with no decorations after the divorce.  So I am starting from scratch.  I bought a set of 6 ornaments for $22 a box last year.  No regrets.  Absolutely love them. Fell in love with them at first sight.  I wanted to get another few awesome unique decorations this year, but so far I haven't see anything that I love.  So if I may or may not get some more ornaments.  I will get some light strings and probably make popcorn strings with my kids and we'll decorate our mid-size fake tree.  And we'll be perfectly fine.

For the purse, if you don't mind gently used, eBay is a gold mine of used Coach purses, many under $100. Search for 'vintage Coach' and find such goodies as:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Coach-Black-Leather-Station-Bag-5130-Cross-Body-shoulder-bag-/222316248676?hash=item33c314be64:g:wOwAAOSw4GVYK7yY

It's not stupid to buy a Coach. But it is stupid to spend several hundred dollars on one.

Also, Fossil has some very nice leather bags you can find on eBay for well under a hundred. They don't feel cheap at all. I'm thinking about getting one like this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOSSIL-Karli-Hobo-Womens-Shoulder-Handbag-Mineral-Gray-Leather-Large-Msrp-248-/172364134234?hash=item2821b3f75a:g:ADgAAOSwNRdX9DGg

An extra room on my house.  It would give me a lovely large sunny room with plenty of bookshelves, a view of the sea, a woodstove, an en suite with underfloor heating for the shower, and a sun terrace outside the folding doors.  It would connect the house with the garden (currently on very different levels).  I've got the planning permission, I've got the money, I've got a builder lined up for next year.  But it is absolutely a want not a need, it is expensive (access issues) and it would be much more sensible to move a septic tank and build a garage.  So, stupid.  Which doesn't stop me dreaming of it.

A Dyson hairdryer,my mornings would run so much smoother. I'm sure I could call it an investment in design.

I just check it out, 'cause I have extra long hair that takes forever to dry, and holy shit is that thinghy expensive! What makes it $500 special?!

Feels light in your hand
turns off quicker than others
my hair drying time has been cut from 30 seconds to about 20 seconds.
looks cool

Those are all I can think of so unless those equate to $80 each, just get a normal blow dryer haha
Just here to feel guilty about my purchases which are often irrational, wants, and in an atypical budget.

Haha, just the opposite...they lost me at a dough pod that only make ONE tortilla. Even one person typically uses more than one tortilla. And then I've got to go out and procure pods? I can't just pour some flour and water into it and have it go to town? That'd be a pretty sweet device. Pour flour and whatever in one compartment, water in the other and watch it make up tortillas. Maybe oil in a 3rd compartment? I don't make tortillas. I assume there's a few dry ingredients, water + oil or the like.

The per-pod price is ridic.  At those prices, they should give you the machine for free and DRM their dough.

My item is a projector. I've been looking at these for years and my TV broke last year. I put this off for a good while longer. Now that fall is here and I'm spending more time indoors again I just ordered a 100" screen. This seems squarely in the realm of the mustachian since MMM claims to have (had?) an 11 foot screen which is a good deal larger. Now I just need to decide on the particular projector model to order. In the meantime I can install the screen when it arrives. Movies and games are my luxury items.

The houses in Princeton, NJ. I do a lot of Zillow surfing and I absolutely love the super modern, deep in the woods style of these houses. They are expensive as fuck all, and the property taxes are enormous. But man do I like looking at the pictures!

A brand-new (facepalm) 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTS-T with AWD, forest green.  I know, I know.  I'm trying to rationalize the AWD, and my real-estate side hustle, and driving it for 10 years, but...the number don't make sense.

The houses in Princeton, NJ. I do a lot of Zillow surfing and I absolutely love the super modern, deep in the woods style of these houses. They are expensive as fuck all, and the property taxes are enormous. But man do I like looking at the pictures!

I gotsta tell you  144 drakes corner road looks cold AF.

Hopefully it's tile/stone b/c radiant heat... usually tile is good for warm climates only

Oh, I do not like that 144 Drakes Corner house one bit!  It looks so cold, kind of like a patio with a wooden and brick structure just plopped on top of it and a jail cell bathroom.

A minivan!  Specifically a Honda Odyssey.  I love my Honda CRV but with 2 babies under 2 I can't carry a double stroller and groceries at the same time.

When I was visiting my family we rented a minivan (it was $2 more than the cheapest rental) and I just fell in love with all the space!  Being able to transport more than 2 adults plus the 2 kids was a total luxury!  It would be nice to not have yo take 2 cars when we go out when family visits ( 1-2 times a month).

Quite un-Mustachian of me, but I've done my homework on this topic and this is a clear winner:

On sale + no sales tax if you live outside of Florida - good luck!!

Whats this sales tax you speak of? Here in Oregon...no sales tax ever...but there is a 9% income tax which hurts a lot more.

Yes, but first please send the money for purchase + postage to my Nigerian bank account.

A certain person. They're not stupid, but my lust is.

To take the following out of context:
I won't do it, but that doesn't stop me from looking.

A silk comforter, and a couple of sets of new sheets.
My duvet comforter feels too hot lately, and the sheets are old and dingy.
But it's all expenses I can postpone for years, and there is no point in having nice stuff with a baby in the house, so I'll wait until my youngest will be in school :-D

A 27" G-sync capable 144hz monitor, which would of course necessitate a video card I can only estimate would cost another $400 at least.

I've decided to hold off another year and see what they cost next season, because $700+ for a 27" screen is outrageous.

If this is anything like past purchases it will hopefully be another 10 years before I break down and get what I really want.
