Wade Pfau Interview/FI vs Retirement

Retirement Expert Wade Pfau on How Much Money You Really Need:

Nothing new on the WR topic. I did like the last question:

What do you think the future of retirement planning looks like?

I do think that increasingly the concept of “financial independence” will replace “retirement.” It’s not always going to be about completely leaving the labor force, but just having great control over working in exactly the way you want.

I agree. The word "retirement" has too much baggage. Decades of golf and TV is not what I'm aiming for (and this has been retirement for my father-in-law, 25 years of it so far).

I think that the observation of "FI" replacing "retirement" is pretty astute.  I think that people find the FI lifestyle more attractive than "retirement" for eustachian-type people but it is also going to be a requirement for those who neglected saving their entire lives.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
