Why do they worry so much over a few $? It had me puzzled - as they have nice cars and would not be short of cash, I thought.

But then I thought the answer could be BECAUSE they have quite expensive cars. They have got into debt with loans to buy the best car they can "afford". And no doubt other things they don't actually need too, if marketing for cars got them, then no doubt other items too.  As they have been affected by marketing / culture etc. Then when the odd fine happens - which happens to us all now and again - they get really worked up because money is so tight for them. They have spent it all and have little in reserve.

What do you guys reckon? Know people like this?

I think that people just don't like paying parking tickets, especially if they paid the meter (as several claimed). I think there is a big difference between "spending" money and "wasting" money. If people buy a nice shiny car, they did it because they enjoy the car. To them, it is worth the money they paid. However, a parking ticket is "money down the drain." They didn't receive any value for paying that ticket (no entertainment, no physical thingamabob, etc). I can get angry when accused of being in the wrong when I know I didn't do anything incorrectly, so I completely relate to those people who were told the meter expired and they knew they had paid it.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
