Vanguard roth ira.
« on: December 15, 2017, 09:51:55 AM »
My vanguard roth ira has reached 30k. I was wondering what fund or funds are recommend being a roth. Currently I have it all in vfinx. In my taxable account I have
74% vtsax and 26% vsmax if that makes a difference.

If you plan on a %100 stock plan I would just put it all in vtsax.    No reason to have a total market fund and an S&P 500 fund

Once you have enough in your IRA ($50k IIRC), you will be able to use Vanguard's Admiral funds, which have even lower expenses.  Keep on saving!

This was interesting I just got this but only have 30k in the roth... However, I got a new job recently and my 401k is now in vanguard putting me over the 50k amount so I now have admiral shares I had no idea it would work like that. Just an FYI

OP I am in a target fund still that is about 80/20 I planned to split it to a basic 3 fund portfolio once I had enough to make the numbers work

I have the admiral shares already. I guess you mean 50k in all vanguard accounts.

thanks for the input.  I was recommended both funds when I started and liked both at the time so I put 1 in my taxable acct and the other in my roth.

I hold several vanguard funds and have been satisfied for decades.

Two I'm currently studying are Vanguard Winsor and Vanguard US Growth.  Both are very old funds with excellent returns.   You can put it all in VTSAX and let it ride.  I've owned it since 2000.
