RE: the bored argument. Blast them with some Louis C.K.!

"'I'm bored' is a useless thing to say. I mean, you live in a great, big, vast world that you've see none percent of. Even the inside of your own mind is endless; it goes on forever, inwardly, do you understand? The fact that you're alive is amazing, so you don't get to say 'I'm bored.'"

Agreed. Only boring people are bored.

I've started telling some family and friends about my plans to RE this year...Now, I know I won't be bored...but I wonder about the lonely part, since my friends will still be working...How do other people deal with negativity, and not let it get to them?

I think you'll find so many like-minded people once you start looking around. In fact, Mrs. & Mr. Frugal Woods (and their Frugal Hound) will be your neighbor in two short years - you can start there! See http://www.frugalwoods.com/2014/12/17/the-frugal-homestead-series-part-1-why-the-woods/.

Of course, it's hard to not be understood/supported by family/friends (I know, my parents grew up in upstate NY and went counter culture - not an easy path back then. Much easier now - there's more company for you out there.) I think your plan of action needs to include building a supportive frugal/FIRE community. I'm not saying to cut your family/friends out - just give yourself some support to follow the path you've chosen.
