FYI your link has extra quotes.
http://www.economist.com/news/essays/21649050-badly-educated-men-rich-countries-have-not-adapted-well-trade-technology-or-feminism/

S/He included the ones s/he thought particularly poignant.

Edit: the article nicely sums up the transition from "role-centric" relationships to "partnership or teams".

Uh, I would find any statements made by Charles Murray to be suspect.

I read this last night and found the essay to be rather speculative in general.

News flash: people have trouble adapting to unemployment and incarceration. The economic policy is obviously flawless, so it must be a reaction to feminism. </snark>

Yeah, that stands to reason:  In the past, men without an education could rely upon, well, being men.  I mean, society had a need for strong men who were willing to work hard.  Today these jobs were few and far between, and they don't pay well, leaving these men feeling "left out".

Anytime there are significant changes in society, there's going to be transition pain. Industrial revolution is a perfect example. There were plenty of problems, some of which we're probably still trying to work out.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
