Travel Rewards - quick question
« on: January 01, 2015, 09:21:23 AM »
Happy New Year everybody!!!!!!!

I just signed up for American Airlines and US Airways reward credit cards.

Do I need to go to these individual airline sites and create reward/membership accounts so that once I earn rewards via credit cards, they can be transferred to these membership accounts?

Basically, I plan to cancel these credit cards before I will be taking my trip.  What do I do with the rewards earned for future use?

Added question: Do you like RewardWallet for keeping track, of should I track somewhere else (different site, excel, etc)?

AA & US Air have merged into AA.

Yes, you need to establish an AAdvantage account for your miles, & link your AA credit card to it. Miles you earn by spending on the CC & by flying AA will transfer automatically to your AAdvantage account. You should also register your CC with AAdvantage Shopping & Dining programs to earn more miles. Keep an eye on your AAdvantage account -- miles get forfeited if there's zero activity for 18 months. Activity = earning or using miles.

I've never had a US Air CC or been in their program, so you'll have to see if it's still separate or now funneling into AAdvantage.

If you get the cards and you didn't give them an account number when you signed up, they'll make an account for you automatically.  Just call customer service and tell them you need access to your account.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
