trading for mini van?
« on: January 16, 2017, 08:34:41 AM »
I've got a nice paid off 2013 subaru for my family of 5 (three little kids).  My plan is to drive it into the ground.  We also have a super old 99 honda or something, but if we want to have another person say a friend of a grandparent we can't fit anyone else in the car and this comes up a lot with lots of family in town and school friends.  I love my Subaru, but would you consider getting a minivan instead if you were in my position?  Thanks.

Vans are great. If you will regularly use 6+ seats, or will use it otherwise sensibly, go for it. If you can't afford it/it'll cost a lot, don't.

i'd consider it once your kids are a bit older. carpools, friends, space, equipment -- all adds up and that space is handy.
then - when they get older and drive themselves, you can go back smaller

Were a family of 6 and couldn't imagine not having our mini-van. Toyota Siena. We use it as our "2nd" vehicle but being a "taller family" 6'8, 6'3 6'1 and some still growing there is just no-way around it not to mention you can really pile in and on the stuff for trips etc.. I was the guy that told my DW we would never own a mini-van. I then became the guy to get one and now where on our second BUT they last us 10 years plus.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
