That my big choice today was to either:

#1 Ride my mountain bike in perfect weather
#2 Ride my new FREE beach cruiser to the movies

I chose #2, because my legs were pretty cooked from biking to work during the week (with homemade lunches in the 'trunk') which is why I didn't mind a bit paying a ridiculous $14 to see the latest 3D superhero flick. :)

You own TWO bikes!? GTFO.

Biking is just plain fun...I'd do it regardless of the savings.

I hear you. I walked four miles today to return a Redbox movie (the dog needed a walk anyway). My neighbors were outside when I got back and asked where we went. When I told them they said I was crazy. The weird part is that these are the people I go walking with in the trails behind our development all the time! Why is 4 miles to the grocery store that much weirder than 4 miles in the woods?

Lol, yesterday, DH and I drove our van to a spot that gets good traffic and left it with a homemade "For Sale" sign in the window. We then walked the three+ miles home. Today, we sold the car and will deposit the check for $3300 tomorrow. One less vehicle!
Best of all, it was my work vehicle pre-FIRE. so happy to see it gone to a new home!

And why is 4 miles walk to get a movie weirder than driving a car so you have an extra hour to browse the web or veg out watching tv? You're doing it right! :)

I wish they would allow dogs in the grocery store.  I would save a ton of time since I bike there anyways.

This is just crying out for an off-color joke.

Please, no animals in the grocery store. Unless they're highly trained service animals, in which case ok. But those need to be wearing their vest, etc.

No, I get it.  Not everyone has an appropriately trained animal and no one wants dog slobber on their cucumbers.

I can still wish though.  Not only would the dogs get exercise, I would get shopping done. All in one shot.

In the near future shopping will be with the wife and dogs.  We will ride the bikes with dogs chasing.  I will get groceries while she watches the animals outside or visa-versa.

I understand the feeling, because I usually have to stand outside with the dog while my husband goes in to get groceries when we walk there- but some people's dogs are giant balls on completely untrained misbehaving and their owners just do not care.

Dogs are allowed in Lowes.  We found that out this weekend.

I see purse dogs in grocery stores all the time. I guess the rules only matter if the dog's feet are touching the floor?

I have one perfectly behaved dog.  (Yes, I have 2 other not perfectly behaved dogs.). I bring Pearl to the grocery store all of the time, and leave her tied up in front of it.  She lays there, sunbathing, until I am ready to go home.

I'd be way too worried someone would steal my dog.  The dog would have no problem with this, however.

Oh, good one! May I borrow it, please?

If I may add, it pisses me off that more stores don't post the rules at the door. Just say NO to the dogs, Retailers! BTW, if a dog bites someone who is shopping in your store, who do you think the victim is going to sue?

I love that picture too!  A little confused by all the comments about dogs in stores.  First of all - I have never been in a store with a poorly behaved dog.  Lots of poorly behaved humans, but not dogs.  Are you guys remembering unpleasant experiences, or just horrified by the thought?

I actually have no problem with dogs in stores. But inconsistently enforced rules really bother me.

Re: the guy with the pitbull in the bag. When we first moved to Chicago and hadn't gotten jobs yet, we couldn't afford a soft cat carrier (we had a hard-sided one, but it wasn't good for everyday cat-toting). So we did the logical thing and carried her around (including on the El) in an insulated shopping bag I got free somewhere. We left it partially unzipped so she could pop her head out whenever she wanted.

I walk both of my dogs to the store (1/2mi) about once a week. I too have considered the possibility of someone walking off with them, but the spot where I tie them is a fairly sheltered outdoor break/storage area with a security camera, so I tend to think the odds are low, both of any malicious (or overzealous) passerby spotting them, and of their actually doing anything.

ROFL. Clearly that guy has too much time on his hands! Still not voting for dogs in stores, though.

Inaya: Nice hack, but why the need to tote cat daily?

Everyday as in routine, not every single day. We do take her out a lot though (several times a week in the summer) because she enjoys adventures. We (cat included) also volunteer to man a booth at street festivals for a local cat shelter. Having her around really draws people into the booth.

We now have a much nicer backpack carrier that's much more comfortable for cat and human.

My cat has always been an indoor cat. She sneaks out every chance she gets, but doesn't leave the porch. Occasionally I carry her out into the front yard. If a car happens to pass, she goes ape-shit scaredy cat. No way would I trust her not to run off (or be chased off) out in the great big world. Do you use a leash?

BTW: I used to be a sales rep in the flooring industry. Many stores were Mom & Pop shops, where the owners put in long days. Their businesses were literally their second homes. I always felt the nicest accounts had a dog or a cat who came to work with their owners. However, this same amity does not extend to customers who shop with their pets, especially at grocery stores. When I worked at Nordstrom, a guy used to bring his Bull Mastiff into the store. The giant dog always looked miserable, like the proverbial bull in the China Shop. Poor dog.

Yeah we definitely use a leash. We don't want to chance any accidents.

We love Nordstrom! We can't take her out during the winter, so she goes a little stir crazy. Fortunately we have a Nordstrom nearby we can take her to, and she's always extremely popular with the employees. (She likes to lick the floor in the perfume department.)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
