The Original Mustache
« on: December 01, 2014, 06:54:35 PM »

The guy who got me started on this path is Henry David Thoreau when I read his book "Walden". His book heavily promoted frugal living in trade for a free life. He wondered why someone would spend two days wages on purchasing train fare to travel the distance of one days walk. His personal experiment was to see if he could exist for one year on $20 and ended living for two years and ended with a net worth of $40.

I remember the train ride example the most. That one makes a lot of sense.

I also like his reference to how farms are more easily acquired then gotten rid of.
