Thanks to the Forum I have my parental coolness back
« on: March 18, 2014, 11:54:14 AM »
Way back when, my DD's friends thought I was a "cool mom" because we texted back and forth.  Now that is old hat.

Yesterday we were talking on the phone (cell phones, of course) and she told me about a financial issue that will be hitting her soon.   I told her that what she was facing was such a first world problem.  She literally started choking  ;-)  She couldn't believe I knew that term, although it is apparently very common in her mid-20s age group.

So kudos to MMM and the forums for keeping me up-to-date on current terminology!

Next time she mentions heading to a party or going out for drinks, say "Turn down for what!" She won't know what hit her.

I guess I should expect my membership in the 'old club' in the mail, because I don't know what that means…

Turn up: Get drunk and/or use drugs, party, etc.
Turn down: Stop partying. So "Turn down for what?!?" is saying why would we stop?
Once you turn up, you're "turnt".

Thanks for that phrase ;-)  I needed it a few years go, she and her BF have settled down and don't do much heavy partying.  She is just finishing school and he is back in school, so the party scene isn't as attractive now.  But I will remember it for future need.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
