Stuck paying Silicon Valley rent
« on: July 21, 2015, 10:00:21 AM »
I make a good income in the medical field. Only trouble is, My rent is HIGH. I still make enough to budget and save but the rent is what it is.
Anyone else dealing with high rent?
I plan on buying again soon but I am putting my wife through nursing school right now and I am focusing on using my net cash and future earnings to save, invest and pay off my own student loans

At least you get amazing weather as part of your payment!

I don't have much advice other than keep looking for a new place.  There are some deals out there to be had.  They're few and far between, but they're out there as long as you don't need an updated kitchen or a ton of space.

This was what caused us to move from Sunnyvale to upstate New York.
Besides being close to family.

As an EE I got a good raise and cut our rent by more than 50%.
This was a long time ago.

We would have spent a lot more on rent until we would have been able to get a house.
Of course that house would have gained a lot more in value than the one we built here.
But, we plan to stay put indefinitely, and I sincerely doubt we would have been able to build a house on 5 acres unless we
were willing to travel quite a bit away from Sunnyvale.

Get a roommate. People will pay $$$ to stay on your couch.
