I worked for a defense contractor in a cleared area for a few years and finally just got fed up with the no cell phone, no internet, no work from home ever, but I was getting paid really well $115k/year with 35 min no-car commute. So it paid really really well, I just couldn't do clearances anymore. So I put my resume out there and told myself "I'm happy enough I'll only accept something where I can work remote 100% of the time."
It took about 3 months of looking but eventually I found a remote job that paid a little less but gave me so much freedom. I never had a commute and I never had to work more than 40 hours a week so I basically ended up with about 10-15 hours of extra time for myself every week while getting paid only a little less. It was so worth it.
That all said, I'm seriously debating dropping that to be a raft guide/ski instructor with some tax prep on the side and this thread has been really inspiring. Thanks everybody!
