Anyone have any experience with this? For them?  Against them?

Did they help?

I had a steroid injection in my foot for arthritic swelling and pain. It was about 8 years ago, and I have had no further problems at all. It was very effective very quickly.
No experience with major joints.

I had one in my shoulder about four years ago. It helped quite a bit right away. Still have ongoing problems, but it's better than it was.

Yes, 5 or so years ago for knee pain (inflamed tendon?). Relief almost immediate and haven't had a problem since.

I had an injection ~8 years ago for an inflamed bursa in my hip. It provided temporary relief, but what finally killed the inflammation was 3 weeks of 500mg naproxen twice a day.

My husband gets frequent steroid shots for pain in his spine. He has degenerative disc disease and is up to 5 torn discs, so this is one part of an overall pain management plan with many other components, but it is somewhat effective in managing his pain.

I had two shots in my lower spine. The first one was immediately effective and I felt great. When I had it done again a few months later, that shot was not nearly as effective.

I finally learned that my back pain(and disc issues) was a result of my lifestyle choices. I have changed how I live and I haven't had much pain since.

Ok, it's been 25 - 30 years, so I'll share admit:
When my kids were little, they had Gameboys. It had 'something' that made it heavier, I think battery related, just can't remember.

It was one of the first Game Boys, so it didn't save how far a person got in a game, the next time you just had to start over.

I was so determined to finish that Tetris game I got a sore wrist. I can't remember what was sore, but the DO (doctor of Osteopathy) gave me a steroid injection.
Took care of the problem, no side effects, never returned (When it was available, we got a 'thing' that enabled us to play Game Boy games on the tv.)

I am 47 years old with a 30 year old shoulder problem.  I won't go into the details but the only option I have for remediation is shoulder replacement.  They only recommend shoulder replacements if your are 70+ because they are only designed to last 10-15 years with limited use.  I get a shot every 9-12 months for pain reduction (within 24 hours the pain is totally gone) and it also improves the flexibility and mobility (likely due to less pain).  Usually around the 7-8 month the pain starts to return slowly.  I ride it out as long as I can because the shot itself can make the bone weaker if done too often - if I want the replacement surgery down the road the fewer the shots the better.

Had bad wrist pain about 15 years ago. A single corticosteroid shot 100% cleared it up. Causal or coincidental? I'll never know.

I get them sometimes for spondylitis and have never had any trouble (aside from the inevitable agitation and disappointment when it wears off).
