StashLine: My New Personal Finance Planning App
« on: May 08, 2014, 07:58:57 PM »
I just released my new IOS app for FI planning. It uses the "Simple Math Behind Early Retirement" but extends it to allow for changing situations, mortgages, raises, etc...
It's handy if you want to model when you can retire but can't fit your complex plans involving raises and mortgages and changing expenses into other simpler online retirement calculators.

Website here: http://thume.ca/stashline

It's been in the works for a while. I started it one week after first reading MMM, then I read the blog post about the Ottawa meet up and got my ass in gear to finish off the alpha in two weeks. I showed it around to a couple people (including MMM) and received some interest. I've spent the last few months polishing it and making it more complete and user friendly, and procrastinating.

Don't worry about the normal retirement dates in all the screenshots. I used to show off my FIRE plans but people would get caught up on the retirement date and I would spend all my time explaining Mustachianism instead of the app, so I created a tweaked profile that doesn't give away my real plan for screenshots and demos, the age and general shape is still correct though.

Currently it works on the iPad and the iPhone but the experience is much better on the iPad. I designed it for the iPad instead of some other platform since I got one for free from my awesome summer job employer, perhaps the most Mustachian way of acquiring expensive iHardware. If people like the IOS version I might make a web app at some point.

I would appreciate feedback on the app, can't get much from my friends since high school students aren't generally interested in personal finance.
Hope some of you find it useful.

I saw a thread on this on the ERE forums a few days ago and played with it.  Pretty darn awesome, well done!  :)
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.

Whoah cool someone posted it on ERE. Do you have a link to the thread?
