I've noticed I'm doing the same thing. not so much with the election or anything specific, but finding i'm trying to spend money enjoy myself. Some of it 100% worth it. we hosted my inlaws this weekend, and they brought fancy foods and bought us lunch, so we took them to the aquarium for my kid's birthday. $90 but we got some amazing pictures and we all had fun.

I'm consolidating my gun collection (a hobby/sport of mine) but I'm trying to consolidate crap and go more minimalistic. However since I sold a few off, I find I'm buying accessories and stuff i don't "need" but have wanted because I'm a bit flush with "gun money" which is never part of the household budget. Sure I could buy a share of something, but I've always wanted a shark trimmed custom holster, so damnit I'm getting one.

I'm a fan of being prepared, and find that helps. But not a shit ton of canned goods prepped, but ready for a hurricane as mentioned above. I say food/meds/gas/cash/ammo for a week. But a ton of skills. Worst comes to worse I can retire right now and live off the family land for pretty much ever. But quality of life would be pretty low. but I have enough skills that we could eat and stay warm, so that's not the worst.

I'm not worried about a total collapse of anything long term. stocks plunging? sure. 25% down in a day? maybe but unlikely. having to get home from work during a crazy collapse? there's hiking boots and a gun in the car, I'll be fine.

Depends what you are saying Yolo to for spending.

If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, I wouldn't regret:
Not eating out enough
Not buying a $40k luxury car
Not drinking enough
Not buying an oversized house
Not buying an OLED TV
Not buying enough fancy clothes

I might regret:
Skipping one too many trips to place I have never seen
Not having another child
Not making more time for friends and family
Not getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things
Working too much
Spending too much on bullshit toys that I could have used to make my family more secure and accomplish any of the above items more easily.

Most of the habits that lead to being more frugal are just a recognition that we should strive to spend resource on things that really matter and not bullshit that has trivial short term meaning that wouldn't even cross my mind on my death bed.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
