site for shopping for best homeowners/car insurance rates
« on: May 14, 2013, 07:38:47 PM »
I want to make sure we're getting the best rates possible but I think there has got to be a site that will let me somehow search or get several quotes - as opposed to calling each company one by one.

Any suggestions?

Wow ... You never got any hits on this?

The most recent Consumer Reports article lists a few comparison sites, although you've probably already gotten what you need by now:

www.insure.com
www.insweb.com
www.netquote.com

Personally I use the insurance broker at my credit union.  They have access to all the insurance companies that don't spend $100 million a year on animated lizards and B list actors.  I get better coverage, full year auto policies (a dieing option) and better rates than any website I have ever used.

Have you checked with www.aaa.com? My wife and I switched over to them about 4 years ago. You have be an AAA member, which I think costs about $100 per year. But even with the membership fee factored in, they are considerably cheaper than most of the other companies that we looked at. We use them for both homeowners and auto insurance.

I got a phenomenal rate from the company I use, but had heard they really jack the rates up after that first year.  So I used an insurance broker.  He gave me a quote for another company that was 20% higher than what I was paying.  When my renewal came, it was only $9 higher than last year.  I stuck with them.

If you're eligible, make sure that you check out USAA. You don't have to be in the military to get in if you have a family member that was in the service it is possible you can find a way in.

Not sure if your in Canada or the USA.  Found a new company called square 1 in Canada, got my insurance from 1100 down to 580 per year.  Very tough terms of insurance though.
