Seeking Cheap (Free) Father's Day Gift Ideas
« on: June 09, 2014, 11:57:40 AM »
Our family is relatively new to the mustachian way of life.  We've had the habit in the past of buying gifts for holidays which results in the accumulation of junk most of the time.  The gesture is appreciated but the item just adds to our pile of things to move to the next house.

With Father's day coming up I certainly don't want my husband to feel overlooked or unappreciated.  Any ideas for something inexpensive I can do with my little ones (under the age of 3) to make sure he knows how special he is to us?

We're planning on going to a baseball game. The team here is the most minor of the minor leagues so the tickets are really inexpensive and there are no pricey add-ons, like pay parking or crazy expensive food/drink (or they allow you pack in food, too).  We have taken our 2 year old to it and he LOVES it.

I always buy my dad books. I don't think he actually reads them.

I was hoping Mustachians would have some brilliant gift ideas I could borrow

This year I will be making my dad ~2qts. of chocolate ice cream. He says it is the best he has ever eaten, and it only costs me around $4 and some time. I'll probably make him some ice cream cones to go with that ice cream too. I think I did that last year too. It's super tasty.

In the past I made my dad a turtle cheesecake and that turned out really well. Not something you can easily buy without paying a small fortune (not that it was cheap to make either).

My dad doesn't really want anything, but I feel the need to show the gesture, so I usually get consumables. This year I got him a nice loose-leaf tea and some socks. Socks aren't technically consumable, I guess, but they wear out after a few years and they don't really clutter up the place. :)

I always enjoy going out to eat (or ordering takeout or delivery) over material gifts, so I'd suggest something food-related.

For my wife I told her I dont want her spending money. I told her give me a little pedicure and a foot massage and I will be happy!
