Savvy Money Saving and Earning Tips for Mustachians
« on: December 01, 2015, 07:23:37 PM »
How do you save more money without cutting back or making more than your peers?  Perhaps we can gather resources here to find free entertainment, great credit card churning offers, rebates, and other fiscally savvy tips and tricks.

Entertainment
Gofobo. Like good movies?  Like going to the theater?  Do you want to have access to sneak peeks of a good chunk of new movies?  Then gofobo has got you covered.  Make an account, specify your location and keep your phone nearby and keep your eyes peeled for weekly sneak peak offer of some of the hottest box office hits.  Make sure you set an alert on your phone for when you receive an email from gofobo because they run out of tickets FAST.  From my experience, you need to request a sneak peak pass within 10 minutes of receiving the email to ensure you get a pass.  If you get a pass, you get a ticket for two to the film.  Make sure you arrive 45 minutes early to ensure you get a seat as they do hand out more passes than there are seats so some people will be disappointed.  So far, the wife and I have seen The Martian, The Last Witch hunter, Goosebumps, and the new Maze Runner movie within the past couple weeks and they were completely free (sneak in your snacks and drinks).   We had plenty of options to see other movies too but we are a bit more selective over which movies to scope out.  A link to gofobo is as follows:  https://www.gofobo.com/index.php

Citi Private Pass. It's just like Gofobo but it's not as easy to get screeners in my area through CPP. I hear they also limit you to one screener per 6 month period but I havent verified this. A CPP link is as follows: http://advancescreenings.com/outlet/citi_private_pass

Shopping
Ebates.  Perhaps the worst kept mustachian secret is Ebates.  If you have been living under a rock, Ebates is an online cash back referral site.  The way it works is that you go to Ebates and use their link to go to the site you want to buy from.  A popup will come up saying you are on your way to getting X% cash back.  Once you complete the purchase, your Ebates account will get credited with x% of the purchase within a couple days and Ebates will send you a paper check in the mail quarterly (I think you have to have at least $5.00 credit before they send the check but I may be mistaken.  Before I buy ANYTHING online, I check to see if Ebates offers cash back.  Most sites I use only offer 3-5% cash back but nearly every site I shop from is on Ebates and I do a lot of online shopping because I find better deals that way.  Recently I even got 9% cash back from a big purchase I made at Jos A Banks.com, that was a very nice little bonus.  As an added bonus, Ebates will give you a free $10.00 gift card after you make an account and make your first purchase by going to their site first.  If you use my referral code, I will get a $5 credit as well:  http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=YF6mujZls09aA683LlEkRg%3D%3D&eeid=28187

Retailmenot.
This is another good site for online shopping.  It’s a site that compiles a bunch of online promo codes and coupons for use at nearly every online retailer.  I use it with conjunction of Ebates.  I find what I want to buy, go to Retailmenot to check for coupon codes, then go to Ebates to use their cash back link.  Retailmenot is great, but many of the coupon codes don’t work so you have to be prepared to try different coupon codes to maximize your savings.  You can even use this site on Domino’s Pizza!  A link to Retailmenot is:  http://www.retailmenot.com/

Groupon.
This is a site that offers steep discounts on many restaurants and entertainment events.  My wife uses this site often to get 50% at restaurants.  They often have additional promotions where you can get either $5 off any Groupon purchase or 20% off any Groupon purchase.  Just this week we were in Vegas for vacation and were going to head over to the National Atomic Testing Museum and stumbled upon a 50% Groupon deal and paired it with Ebates for an additional 6% cash back!  We saved about $25 on that one purchase!  My referral code to Groupon is as follows:  https://www.groupon.com/visitor_referral/h/864f0897-aa81-41d6-aef8-9ae9605eeb12

Livingsocial.  This site is just like Groupon but it doesn’t seem to have nearly as many deals.  Perhaps it’s different in different regions.  It’s still worth checking out.  A link to the site is:  https://www.livingsocial.com/

ebay.  Great resource for getting premium brand name clothing for the cheap.  I regularly get $200 pre-owned excellent condition ties for $7 bucks.  I recommend doing a detailed search and saving it to your favorites.  www.ebay.com

Pricegrabber.  This is a price comparison site that is good to use if you already know exactly what you want to buy and arent going to wait out the best deal possible.  You search for the item you are looking for and this site searches many of the major sites and shows you who has the cheapest price.  http://www.pricegrabber.com/

Credit Cards
Chase Sapphire Preferred. This card will give you 40,000 points good for $400.00 cash when you spend $4,000 in the first 4 months of opening the card and has a $0.00 introductory annual fee, but will go up to $95 if you don’t cancel within the first year.  Be sure to use all your points before cancel the card because the points don’t transfer over to another card.  I got this card when I went on my honeymoon last year because I knew I could meet the spending requirements (was 3k in 3 months when I got it) and I needed a card with $0.00 foreign transaction fees.  Bonus is this card is sexy and made of metal.  I cancelled my card before the annual fee came up and made a cool $600 off this card.  A link to the card is:  https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/sapphire/apply?CELL=6RRW&kwdID=Njvq0Kw5_d{Device}&adgrpID={AdId}&jp_cmp=cc%2FSapphire+Preferred+-+Brand+-+Exact%2Fsea%2FNjvq0Kw5%2FSapphire+Preferred

American Express Premier Reward Gold.  You can get $500.00 of free travel and $200.00 of free Amazon gift cards with this beauty of a deal. AMEX even waives the annual fee for the first year, but be sure to cancel it after you squeeze all the benefits out. You will need good credit to get approved for this card.

First, open the following link in "incognito" or "inprivate" mode: https://www.americanexpress.com/us/cred ... ards-gold/ . Keep opening/closing it until you get the 50,000 points offer and then apply. If you get approved and they send you the card, you will get 50,000 points after you spend $1,000.00 in the first three months. I have a referral code for this but im not sharing it because you get a way better deal using the link i posted. After a couple months you will get the points which are worth about $500 in flight travel. It takes awhile but its worth it. Alternatively, if you arent into traveling you can sell your points to The Point Broker for about $600.00. I dont recommend it because its against the terms of AMEX and they will strip you of any AMEX card and all points if you get caught. Its hard to get caught but I really dont endorse it, too risky and I'm a globetrotter so i can always use the miles.

Second, one of the perks of this card is that it provides $100 each calendar year as airline credit. You select an airline upon receiving the card. You can make any purchase up to $100.00 from that airline and AMEX will reimburse you within a week or two if its approved. If you get the card now, you can do this in Dec. 2015 and again in Jan. 2016 as AMEX goes by the calendar yeaar. I picked United Airlines as my airline and downloaded the "MileagePlus X" app on my phone. This app is run by United Airlines and any purchase through this app with the AMEX card will be coded as "in flight purchase" or at least it currently does. Search for Amazon giftcards and purchase a $100.00 giftcard using the AMEX card as the form of payment. It worked for me but beware, this is a major loophole in the system and AMEX will certainly fix it sooner or later. Its technically not supposed to be reimbursed but because of the way United Airlines codes it, it slips under the radar. However, worst case scenario you pay $100.00 for a $100.00 giftcard to Amazon. This is the best credit card option available at the moment. I can confirm AMEX reimbursed a $100.00 Amazon giftcard purchase through the MileagePlus X app 2 weeks ago.   Credit to kpd905 for introducing the MMM community to this great deal at this link: http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/reader-recommendations/amex-premier-rewards-gold-get-up-to-$825-after-spending-$1-000-in-3-months/?topicseen

Student Loan Refinancing
Sofi.  If you are lucky, you don’t have to worry about these chains.  If you’re a millennial (I hate that word) you’re probably living with Sallie Mae.  I graduated Law School a little over a year ago with $50,000 in student loan debt at a 6.8% fixed interest rate.  Relatively speaking that’s not too shabby, but being a Mustachian with FIRE ambitions really prompted me to research alternatives.  I researched the pros and cons of student loan refinancing and determined it was right for me.  I wound up refinancing to an adjustable rate of 3.8% and saw immediate results.  My monthly payment went from $575.00 a month down to $500.00 which is a net savings of close to $10,000 over a ten year period.

Refinancing is certainly not for everyone.  I would only recommend refinancing if (1) you will pay off your loans within the traditional 10 year period, (2) you are not planning on relying upon Public Service Loan Forgiveness, IBR, PAYE, or REPAYE, (3) you understand if something happens to you and you are no longer able to work the private servicer may go after your estate, (4) you don’t foresee the need for a deferral down the line, and (5) you would rather dump extra money into investments (riskier) than take the safe route and pay off student loans early.  I went with Sofi and they are great.  The application is simpler than their competitor’s and they were the only lender that approved me for refinancing.  You can use my referral link for a bonus $100.00 if you elect to refinance with Sofi (I will get $100.00 as well), but I strongly encourage anyone to apply to all lenders they can for refinancing and go with whomever gives them the best rate.  My referral code is:  https://www.sofi.com/refer/234/11233

Other options to consider are:
DRB - https://student.drbank.com/
earnest - https://www.meetearnest.com/
CommonBond - https://commonbond.co/

Travel
Hilton Honors (Hotel Rewards).  If you are like me, you travel a lot for work.  The Hilton brand of hotels has a reward program, Hilton Honors, in which you can earn points for each dollar spent on a room you stay in.  Simply hand the clerk your card when you check in and you are good to go.  Hilton Hotels, Conrad, Double Tree, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, and Homewood Suites are all apart of this program.  Sign up for the reward's program here:  http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/index.html?WT.srch=1

Rental Car.  Enterprise and National have the Emerald Club which allows you to earn points redeemable for free car rentals.  This works similarly to the Hilton Honors Program previously mentioned inwhich you just slide your card to the clerk when checking out a rental.  You can earn points even if you are not footing the bill for the rental as the points are given to the driver.  https://www.nationalcar.com/en_US/car-rental/loyalty/enrollment/welcome.html?sourceCode=2049&iataNumber=NC002447&affiliateRes=Y&cm_mmc=MSN-_-Brand-_-MS_SE_Emerald_B_NTL_E_US-_-emerald_club

Bank Accounts
PNC.  Open a PNC online checking account and get up to $300.00 after you set up direct deposit and use their bill pay function once.  There are three types of accounts; Virtual Wallet, Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend, and Virtual Wallet with Performance Select.  Virtual Wallet can net you a free $50.00 if you open the account and direct deposit a total of $500.00 into it.  The $7.00 monthly service fees are waived on the Virtual Wallet if you keep the average balance over $500.00 or you direct deposit $500.00 monthly to the account.  Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend can net you a free $200.00 if you open the account and direct deposit a total of $2,000.00 into it.  The $15.00 monthly service fees are waived on the Account if you keep the average balance over $2,000.00 or you direct deposit $2,000.00 monthly to the account.  Virtual Wallet with Performance Select can net you a free $300.00 if you open the account and direct deposit a total of $5,000.00 into it.  The $25.00 monthly service fees are waived on the Account if you keep the average balance over $5,000.00 or you direct deposit $5,000.00 monthly to the account.  Rewards money is deposited into the Virtual Wallet between 60-90 days from meeting the conditions for receiving the reward.  You must apply online to take advantage of this offer.  https://www.pnc.com/en/personal-banking/banking/checking/campaigns/checking-vw-tiered-offer.html?WT.mc_id=VW15_M_Search_FLA_S_M_B_VW_Virtual+Wallet_E&WT.srch=1&k=pnc+checking&e=bing&m=p

Found a Freebie
PINCHme.  PINCHme is a company that sends you monthly boxes of samples of your choosing after you register and complete your profile.  I have a cat that I spoil and this site sends out a crap-ton of cat food samples (among everything else).  I registered the other day and filled my box with the following samples 1) Beyond Grain-Free Cat Food, 2) Olay Body Wash, and 3) Fancy Feast wet food can.  I haven't received the box yet but I have heard it's legit.  We will see what happens.  https://www.pinchme.com/

Free 20oz Coke-Zero Bottle from either 7/11, Speedway, or Dominos:
https://www.cokezero.com/form

Francois et Mimi.  Subscribe to this company's promotion mailing list and get coupons for free items on Amazon.  If you have Amazon Prime, you wont even pay shipping on most items!  I registered a couple days ago and received a coupon code for an iPhone car charger, bluetooth earbuds, and wired earbuds.  I haven't received anything yet but it would appear that this company has good quality merchandise.  http://www.francoisetmimi.com/contact-uscontactez-nous.html

Other Tips
Pinecone Research.  This site will pay you $3 for completing 10 minute surveys maybe once a week.  They occasionally send you products to test for their research.  New users may register for the site on a limited basis.  They are currently accepting applicants if your profile fits their current needs.  You may be able to register at the following site:  http://centerpointscreener.com/

Bing. Use Bing to search the Internet to earn points.  I was a googler before and it was difficult for me to actually make the switch but im legitimately happy I did.  I like Bing more solely because of their inspiring daily background images.  I find myself downloading their photos and changing my desktop wallpaper much more often.  Check out to guide here and be sure to use the last person's referral code so that they get a bonus:  http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/reader-recommendations/bing-get-~$5-a-month-to-browse-the-internet/

Mango Savings Account. Insured by the FDIC, Mango offers possibly the best safe return on your money. You can get a 6% interest rate on your first $5,000.00 saved by simply depositing $500 monthly into your account. I dont know the details as I havent done this myself, but I believe you can withdraw the $500.00 monthly penalty free if you just want the account to stay at $5,000.00. If I were to open a Mango account I would use it in conjunction with my credit cards as my primary emergency fund (charge credit card when an emergency occurs and pay the card statement with the Mango funds) and invest the remainder of my income into index funds, in a taxable account, as a secondary emergency fund. If anyone knows any additional info on whether my plan would work hit me up. The link to Mango is: https://www.mangomoney.com/what-is-mango/

Mystery Shopping.  I recently got into mystery shopping on the side just for the free food from restaurants.  It is not just restaurants that do mystery shops, its also retail stores, movie theaters, and even professional sporting venues.  There are hundreds of Mystery Shop Companies or MSC's so you have to register for quite a few to find consistent work.  I personally do mystery shopping for the free food as I enjoy eating out but am too mustachian to do so without feeling like I wasted my money.  Other people do it for the money.  I tend to just get free food in exchange for filling out the reports.  In every MSC's contractor agreement you agree not to disclose who their clients are.  So you will not see me disclose which MSC shops a particular client.  I can make recommendations for without giving specific names of each MSC's clients:

Market Force - fast casual; tax preparation; grocery; fast food:  http://www.marketforce.com/
Sentry - restaurant:  https://admin.sentrymarketing.com/document.asp?alias=login
RBG - vallet, coffee/treats:  http://www.realitybasedreports.com/shoppers/ClassicJobBoard.php?mode=zipCode
Nss - pizza:  http://www.nationalshoppingservice.com/
Sinclair - pizza:  http://shoppers.ssanet.com/index.cfm
iSecretShop - this is really an interface that other MSC's use to schedule shoppers.  Goodwin Hospitality uses iSS and they have a lot of good restaurants:  https://www.isecretshop.com/agent/available/
Amusement Advantage - Amusement Parks, Zoos, Aquariums:  https://www.amusementadvantage.com/LIST_SHOPPERS_JOBS1.asp?action=BYCOUNTRY
Coyle - fine dining and luxury hotels (not for newbies):  https://coyle.shopmetrics.com/document.asp?alias=shopmetrics.standard.login
Service Scouts - Sporting events:  https://servicescouts.report-central.com/login.php?Reason=&PostDataLogin=29
Secret Shopper - fast casual:  https://www.secretshopper.com/Shoppers/AuditSchedule.asp
There are many many others.

Birthday Freebies. Many restaurants will give you something for free on your birthday if you join their loyalty program.  Here are a few:
Cinnabon - Free Mocha Chillata on B-Day and Free Minibon for registering - http://cinnabon.fbmta.com/members/UpdateProfile.aspx?Action=Subscribe&InputSource=W
Firehouse Subs - Free Medium Celebratory Sub - http://firehouse.relevantmobile.com/

Now THIS is what I call a GREAT post. Well done!

Might I add slickdeals.net if you need to buy consumables like electronics?

I use the retailmenot a lot, and my gf uses groupon a lot.

Also, don't forget your alumni associations. Mine has tons of deals on EVERYTHING.

If you are in IT, dreamspark.com will let you get cool MS IT software like Visual Studio and SQL Server for free, if you have a .edu email account. Being a member of your alumni association pays off (I get lifetime email and library access as well as all kinds of discounts)!

A small one, but it helps!

If you have an Android phone, install the Google Opinion rewards app. A couple times a week it'll prompt you to answer a short (2-3) question survey, and will reward you with somewhere between $0.15 and $.50 per survey. It's small, but it adds up, and you can use it for an app purchase or a movie rental once every month or so. I use it to knock a couple bucks off my Google Play Music subscription each month. I've been using it for a couple years now and my total rewards to date is ~$50.00.

Does anyone here have any experience with Ebates Canada?  I've read some nasty reviews about not getting paid, etc., so have been leery about signing up.  Also, Canadians apparently only get a $5 credit when they sign up, not $10.   We always seem to get screwed compared to American offers.

Cut out the eyes of potatoes and cook the rest to eat.

Toss them back n the manure pile (Craigslist always has free manure if you go get). I then go to the feed store and they have a ton of straw and hay that falls off so they throw it in a corner and people come and get it for free. We used to use it in our chicken coop but now I just toss it in with the manure to lighten it up. It needs to be very light with lots of air. You must toss it once in a while and ensure it has some water. It takes a bit of trial and error to see what makes the potatoes grow. It needs some some sun. But the potatoes are so DELICIOUS it's unbelievable. We eat various kinds, even the purple ones.

We have endless potatoes for free. I often bring stuffed potatoes to church and people ask why the potatoes are so tasty. They are cute because some are brown russet, some are the white potatoes and some are the purple kind. It took months to grow each potato but when you have so many and it takes just a sec to toss them in, they multiply like mad. I used to feed some of it to our pet chickens back in the day

Free Firewood + some firewood to sell. A guy who owns a tree trimming business calls sometimes asking my husband to come and pick up some free wood. He's worked so hard (Physical labor) that by the time it gets to keeping the wood, he's too tired to pick it all up and toss it in his truck

My husband and I go get it. He uses his chainsaw to cut it up and sell it (some needs to age) and we keep some for our fireplace.

This has saved us alot of money this year since firewood is pretty expensive. The area we live in is very wealthy so the firewood always sells fast.

I don't have experience with the Canadian Ebates but I would be shocked if the Canadian Ebates was less honest than the American branch.

I will say that I have not received credit for every transaction but its been my own fault each time.  Once I added items to my Amazon cart then went to Ebates to check out, that didn't work.  Another time I used the Ebates link then put items in my cart but used the browser with the Ebates ticket to leave the site before checking out.  Each time I sent a request to Ebates and they told me they didn't see that I complete a checkout.  Makes sense, they didn't get paid so neither would I.

I've had great experiences with Ebates and have received $400 cashback since I opened my account a couple years ago.

Great thread!
I recently installed the Honey app on Chrome. When you shop online, Honey automatically searches for coupon codes you can use. Does anyone else use this? If so, have you had any luck with it?

Your experience sounds good.  I just might give it a try - I am ordering more and more things online now, and getting a rebate on those orders would be nice.

I use Swagbucks to get free gift cards. You can sign up for an account with them then get points for taking surveys, watching videos, searching the web, etc. You then redeem the points for gift cards. I've been using them for about 2.5 years and have earned more than $750 in gift cards thus far. If anyone is interested in signing up, you can use this link http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/Amyj05 and I'll get a referral bonus.

EnjoyIt

thanks for the amex tip. I just got approved for 50K points.  Spending $1K shouldn't be too hard in 3 months.  Worst case scenario I will just buy some gift cards for my supermarket, gas station, or the pet supply store.

McDonalds Sandwhich(es). If you download the McDonald's app. titled "McDonald's", and create an account, you will receive an offer for any McDonald's sandwhich free of charge, no purchase necessary.  It can take 5-30 minutes for the coupon to show in your "offers" section of the app.  No purchase necessary.  I'm told if you uninstall the app and reinstall you can get a new coupon.  Works on Android and iOS operating systems.  Offer expires December 31, 2015!  Android: https://play.google.com/store/app....app&hl=en ; IOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/m...03212?mt=8

USB External Phone Charger.  Create an account and post what you do to feel classy while smoking a Black and Mild cigar and receive a free USB external phone charger.  These things really come in handy if you dont have one.  I spent $7 bucks for one just a couple months ago, I wish I knew about this sooner.  Offer expires 12/20/2015 so act fast!  http://slickdeals.net/?lno=1&trd=www+blackandmil+wbr+d+com&pv=&au=&sdtid=8206811&sdop=1&sdpid=79160141&sdfid=4&mon=1&ref=1&u2=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.blackandmild.com

Also, I used the McDonalds coupon this evening to get a free chicken sandwhich.  Sandwhich was meh but it worked like a charm :)

Target is selling gift cards for 10% off today. If you shop at Target a lot this would be a good deal.

Woo hoo! Just got a gift card. Thanks.

I used my new AA Citibank rewards card to purchase it. I have to spend $3000 in 3 months to get 50,000 miles, so this purchase gets me a little closer to that.

Now I am on this thread and can get more juicy tidbits of frugawesomeness (yes, just made up that word).

http://camelcamelcamel.com to track Amazon prices - it will email you when the price drops to a level you set if you want, too. I use this for most big purchases that can wait a while, and I start early with college textbooks for my husband. It will track used prices as well as new.

1. Become a secret shopper for Market Force and eat cheeseburgers for free(everyday if you wanted) and get paid on top of reimbursement. For example, I made 18 bucks at one location today.
1a. I also get free food at almost every fast food joint you can think of, plus movies, oil changes, shoes, free shipping across the US, office supplies, beauty products. I barely spend money at the grocery store anymore, usually around 50 bucks a month......oh and free gasoline
2. I buy "$200" ties in fantastic condition at the Goodwill outlets(not the regular stores)for a dollar apiece and sell them on Ebay for $7 ;)
3. I've made over $500 in gift cards on the Mobee app. I'm hoping the Zinier app will have an Android version soon.
4. don't buy books unless you are giving them as a gift or for school. Use the library. And the books you do have, sell them at Powells.com, clicking the sell online button, and shipping to them is free. I have sold over 32 books to them for $52.....not a lot of money. But, considering these same books were lingering on Half.com for years with no takers, I'll take some money over none at all.
5. when I do buy stuff at the grocery store, they are usually the things that don't have coupons, like produce or meat. but, when I do buy a nonperishable thing like cans of evaporated milk or chocolate chips, I check out couponmom.com, peruse their coupon database and see if there is a coupon for it.
6. I get the Sunday paper delivered to me for $10 a year(got this deal from Groupon years ago and the LA Times keeps offering me my renewal for the same price.)this is the paper that has the coupons. If you don't want to purchase the Sundaypaper for the coupons, you can glean them from a neighbor, starbucks, printable ones online.

Thanks to your post I applied to Marketforce. We will see if they accept me or not. I hope they do. I like doing secret shops. This mobee app, can you explain more. I like to earn giftcards, helps out with household clothes, gas etc.
The coupon site you use, do you have to print the coupons first or is it where you show them the coupon on the phone?
Thanks for your tips, much appreciated.

BONUS:  If you have student loans and do a quick quote at earnest but do not complete the application, they will send you an incentive of $50.00 to complete the application.  I got this offer but it may be targeted.  So YMMV.

The whole Mystery Shopping thing looks like its more work than its worth but ill give it a shot.

1. Go to google play on your phone and type in Mobee. install the app for free and the site will explain how it works. or you can google "Mobee app" on your computer and install that way as well.
2. go to the website couponmom.com and poke around. it is mainly a database of what's on sale where.

As to Rental cars- Costco.com has great rates (for members, of course) on the major rental companies (budget, enterprise, national, etc...).  Sometimes downs to around $10/day for short rental periods.  I usually rent a good mpg car- and it basically pays for itself(including rental fee) over driving my Toyota truck...  login to costco.com- click on "travel" at the top of the page...  Jimmy

Sorry, coming in with another Target rec (they should pay me!).

If you have a smartphone, download their app, "Cartwheel." You can stack multiple discounts on items together and the more you use it the more discounts you can use... I think you start with 10 or 15 "slots" and then you move up from there. You can plan in advance (i.e. look up what's on sale), search while at the store, or scan barcodes on items at the store to see what is on sale. These discounts are additional discounts that aren't offered in store (in store it will say to download the Cartwheel app).

I usually end up saving at least a $1 if not more when I go to Target. People complain that it's "time-consuming," but it's not really and I enjoy it. Kind of like a game to me. It shows you how much you've saved on the app too, in about 5 purchases I have saved an additional $33! :)

Love the cartwheel app! You can scan items as you put them in your cart to see if there is a cartwheel deal. It will even tell you if a similar item in a different brand has a discount. It's also the only way I've ever seen discounts on store brand items.

That website I mentioned earlier, freebieshark.com does a lot at target, they will tell you how to attach manufacturers coupons with target ad prices plus cartwheel deals.

This is a monster deal for Amazon Prime users.

FYI, I have received the free apple car phone charger and the wire earbuds.  The phone charger is solid and the buds are just fine.  This is a really sweet site to register for and I hope they continue sending the promo codes.  Does anyone know of any websites that do something similar?

Also, I changed the name of the thread.

Paribus

Sing up and give them your Amazon login and if prices drop within 7 days of a purchase, they e-mail Amazon to request a refund of the difference, in line with their price match policy. I've done this and gotten $3 refunded so far when prices dropped on toothbrushes and a magnetic knife strip I ordered. They keep 25% of everything you save; 20% if you sign up through my link. They support other stores too.

PINCHme is not worth the time.  I signed up for a box months ago and have not received anything.  Kept receiving emails to go get my samples on sample days and there was nothing there.  Others have experienced the same so it is not just me.

Mango money has more requirements than netspend.  I personally would recommend netspend over it together with my shameless referral link...
http://www.mynetspendcard.com?uref=3384613230
You open a prepaid debit card and can open a linked $5000 savings account at 5%.  No monthly deposit required and no monthly fee.  Push and pull money into the debit card from a checking account via your checking account.   Only thing you have to watch out for is an inactivity fee.  I just push and pull $2 from my card automatically every 2 months.  Then just leave it on autopilot. You can have 3 per name - just set one up completely before opening a new one.

I'm spending a lot up front eating out but when the reimbursements and shop fees start coming in from the mystery shopping I will be saving a lot more.  We are eating out nearly every day so i'm not spending as much on groceries and i'm never spending my own money on eating out anymore.  I think its going to save up about $400 a month ($150 saved from not eating out on our own dime, $200 saved on not buying as many groceries, $100 in shop fees).  Plus its fun and I can drop $100 at a restaurant without feeling guilty.

Do you live in an urban city? It sounds lie you have this figured out quite well!

wanted to chime in with a Thank You and plug for the Francois et Mimi suggestion.

It took a couple weeks before I heard anything from them, but in the past few weeks I've gotten emails for:

Wired headphones
Bluetooth speaker
Bluetooth headphones
Non-slip cutting board
Micro-fiber sheet set

I've already received the wired headphones, cutting board, and sheets.  I'm sleeping on the sheets, they are awesome, the cutting board really is non slip (I was always using a piece of rubber-like shelf liner under the cutting board) and the headphones seem quality.  Although I begrudgingly let my partner take the headphones to work today - if they can hold up in a shop environment that breaks phones and causes my tub to look like I killed a motor in there (the grease stays everywhere!) then they will really have passed the test.

Just to back track on PINCHME - I did just receive a box with 4 samples in it.  Just takes a long time to get to you!

Iconsumer
Similar concept to ebates, they share some of the same businesses. currently when you sign up and refer people you receive 100 shares of stock when they use the service! While they are not public yet I believe these get distributed at that point. estimated value $.09/share.

My favorite birthday club freebie are Noodles & co and Starbucks. I usually get a free dinner on my birthday from noodles and they send out BOGO coupons occasionally if you are on their email list.

Qdoba and Coldstone also send out BOGO coupons to email list subscribers.

I use the following apps for rebates. I should preface this by saying I do very little shopping other than grocery shopping.

Shopkick: You get "kicks" for store walkins and scanning things in the store with your phone. I have received target gift cards as reward. This was also the fastest app to pay out for me. Referral Link: http://get.shopkick.com/sodium71978

Ibotta: Scan item bar codes and receipts. The items that have rebates are specific to the store you are shopping. For me this is a disadvantage because Aldi is not on the list and I do most of my shopping there. Maybe it will pay out some day. Referral Link: https://ibotta.com/r/agblbjb

Checkout51: Scan receipts for items on the offer list to recieve a small rebate. The list isn't store specific but usually I only redeem $0.25 a week for a produce item from Aldi. It is slow going to get to the $20 minimum payout. I think it is the easiest app to use though.

Reciepthog: Photograph receipts for "coins" which can be exchanged for paypal or amazon credits. I have yet to see a payout from ~6months of use.

+On cartwheel. Also you can sign up for coupons via text message for target.

I really like your post OP! I take part in many of these too, including mystery shopping! Have you performed any Coyle shops? I submitted an application for my first one. I've heard the reports take hours, though can be worth it for some extra glitz we wouldn't want to pay for otherwise. My favorite shops are also restaurants and grocery stores.

For tv or movie entertainment I sometimes watch Netflix (SO has an account he shared with the whole fam) or I will stream a movie from kodi (open source software media center).

More suburban.  Once you sign up for 50 MSC's its not so hard finding gigs anymore, lol.  You have to sign up for a bunch of MSCs to find jobs because there are literally hundreds of MSCs and one might have one client you are interested in shopping.  There is only a handful of MSC's I do a variety of shops for because the ones I shop basically one shop one restaurant/chain.  This does have its benefits though, all your money isnt tied up in one company.

Overall, I'm enjoying it.  We did a bowling alley shop tonight and a nice restaurant last night that reimburses $120 for our dinner/drinks.  You have to be willing to invest time in doing the reports though and you have to pay close attention to details to make sure your shops are validated.  My advise is to start small before jumping into the fine dining shops.  Start with fast casual or phone shops so you know what you are getting into.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
