I believe this article is about one of the MMM moderators. Pretty neat.

Awesome! that is pretty cool : )

I saw that and immediately thought they HAD to be part of this crew. Glad they are living their dream

Man, that fake news stuff is really getting out of hand, that story is clearly impossible!

...sorry, since it didn't have a comments section, I figured I'd fill that role real quick. ;)
Thanks everyone! :)

Did you see it before seeing it linked here? Just browsing Business Insider or something?
(Also, Mod Note: Moving to "Mustachianism Around The Web" :) )

I saw it on Yahoo's main page and came here to share but you guys beat me to it.

I saw it on Yahoo's main page and came here to share but you guys beat me to it.
Okay, THAT'S cool.
I was wondering if people would see it besides having it linked here. That makes me happy, that the message is being spread.
I just went to Yahoo, all it shows me is something about a Trump Copy Cake Scandal. I have no idea what that means, and don't care to click to find out*. Then a bunch of articles about Australian stuff I don't understand, because we're in Australia and it redirects me to au.yahoo.com (but apparently Trump's Copy Cake--Did they mean Coffee Cake?--scandal is still the Australian leading story).
*And please, no need to discuss whatever the heck it is here, thanks!
But if some people are seeing a story about early retirement being possible amidst all that other stuff, well, hopefully they'll click and be inspired, instead of depressed.
..maybe they meant Copy Cat Scandal? What a weird-ass title. Clearly their catchy headline worked, because though I didn't click, I'm still scratching my head.
The world we live in. :)

Yahoo doesn't proofread their titles or anything for that matter, so who knows what it was supposed to be. Last week they had one where they had misspelled 'urging' as 'urging'. That lead to some pretty funny exchanges in the comments

...I think YOU misspelled the first word as "urging" as well. :P
Urgent, I'm guessing?
No wonder Yahoo is going away. Verizon didn't even want the name, and is rebranding it.

Lol autocorrect sabotaged me. The title was uring instead of urging.

I saw this article from Google Play's Newsstand (kind of an RSS feed). Came here in case it wasn't posted, but of course it was. Of course Google knows my search history so it wasn't totally random, but still neat to see people I recognized on that app non the less.
Congrats again Arebelspy. Living the dream!

Nice coverage arebelspy!! Loved the pics, you all look great and like you're having a blast :)

Awesome! Even if it was a "you've shown interest in the past in articles like this thing," that's cool.
I really wasn't sure when Business Insider contacted us how widespread it would get--I never tend to read BI unless linked, so I didn't know if people would actually see it "in the wild," or just see it linked here on the forums.
Congrats again Arebelspy. Living the dream!

Thanks! :D
Did that help with the lack of a "comments" section? Hope so ;-)
Haha, that was perfect.
Nords posted on Facebook something about a shame there wasn't a comments section, and I said that was my favorite part! :D
I know Ali wouldn't be able to resist looking at it, and she'd get bummed out. Much better to just have the fun of friends and family (and forum friends) being excited for us. :)

What?! Is this a troll post? No way can you retire at 30 and travel around the world. Nope, no way. And even if someone could retire early (they can't) what would you do all day? You'd be soooooo bored you'd want to go back to work within a month. I mean, sure you think you'll be happy living on a small income but you won't be able to do anything fun or buy stuff. You need at least $10mm or more to be able to retire and travel or else you'll just end up broke within a year and will have to live a poverty stricken life. No. Not for me. And I just don't think anyone can do it. No way! Now get a job ya lazy slacker, eat your oatmeal and get of my damn lawn!
Did that help with the lack of a "comments" section? Hope so ;-). Loved the article. Nice to read the whole Spy family story.
My favorite are the threads in this very forum that say the same thing!
-
It came up on my "Stories to read" section of Google now. I knew it was you guys even though I didn't know your actual name. My son's name is also Joe, if he follows in your footsteps I'd be a proud dad :)

Teach him what you know, and no doubt he'll have an awesome start towards it!
Thinking about the potential of all of the kids of the FIRE/MMM-minded folks out there makes me happy. :D

So true, a financial advisor told me so a few weeks ago, a very well to do and smart individual. It cant be done, he proved it to me, he showed me all kinds of rational statistics and graphs. Lol just mind funny how it slips right by some people.... Its like trying to convince someone you found the holy grail, they just look at you like your nuts!
Lol good stuff :)

I randomly ran across a similar article (but different author) posted today in the The Sun out of the UK. I recognized one of the characters from their avatar on this site.

Wow. Only 4 quotes and they're all negative. Oh well, I guess all you can do is laugh and move on.

"And there's also a guy who retired to live off roadkill!"
The perspective in this article is so facile it's funny. Hopefully the more positive example of arebelspy and his family will catch people's attention in a good way.

All four comments on The Sun article were great.
Saving you guys a click through:
Thanks for letting us know, I guess?
Look like brother and sister.
So we are meant to believe a couple of teachers both on a paltry $35000 a year each are able to create a property portfolio in some expensive parts of the USA, through saving and hard work (sarcasm). They clearly inherited a load of money- so why does the article not mention that?
Also, by the looks of it they have a little baby. That baby needs a home and a settled school life- they need to grow up and set some roots for the kids.
Over paid teachers who retire early
What's new there??????
b-u-l-l what's the real story here? and why make yourself a sitting duck for every low life rat in asia who knows your worth more than their national debt.
So what if they were teachers from Las Vegas, who cares that they are now travelling the world.
A non-story about 2 hard working people from America who invested wisely.
Note to 'journalist' Becky Pemberton;
News - [mass noun] Newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent events: NOPE
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention all the money we inherited. lol.
Also, I didn't realize our not quite one-year old was supposed to have a settled school life already.
And I'm confused, is this story impossible for two teachers to have done this, or were we overpaid and this happens all the time, what else is new?
Hilarious. :D
EDIT: Added two more, also awesome.

This was shared in a small mom facebook group I am in! One of the other moms went to high school with Ali! So funny! All the comments in my group were impressed and several shared how they like to read stuff like this often! It was great! Good press for alternative paths in life!
-
People must tell themselves that you obviously had some advantage they themselves lack. Because if they had everything YOU have, they'd be right where you are. Because they're as smart and motivated as anyone, amirite? Surely you didn't just save more and work smarter (and probably with less, initially) than they did/have.
The average man thinks he isn't. Favorite quote ever.
Also - congrats. Cute tiny human!
-
I'm always late. :( Congrats to you and Ali!

Haha, that's hilarious and awesome. Yay for the magic of the Internet. :)

I had many advantages they (probably) lack. Just not monetary, like they're thinking (e.g. inheritance). :)

Hah, nice.

Thanks!

This article popped up in my facebook feed last night and I wondered if it was arebelspy (walked the camino & baby in istanbul gave it away). Now I know!
Congrats on your press!
-
Thanks! I wonder if we have friends of friends in common (six degrees thing), as that seems like most of the FB shares.

I think I read the Business Insider articles about travel and early retirement. "It" knows what I like.

Great story! The folks on this forum are definitely a great bunch of people and consistently inspire me.
