Renters Insurance options.
« on: October 16, 2013, 11:30:29 AM »
My renters insurance contract with AAA is coming up for renewal soon. The amount for the insurance renewal including  would be around $150. I live in Plano, TX. Can i get a better price elsewhere?

Value of all my possessions should be about 25K ( thats my stamp collection). I can live without all the other crap ;-)

Just call around to a few places for a quote. Unless we have an insurance sales rep on this board I don't know how much we will be able to help you. My policy is $60 per year and I valued my possessions at $5k for your reference, I have Assurant.

I'm interested in this as well. My landlord is requiring that I get renters insurance when I sign a new lease next month. My stuff isn't worth that much ( max $4k replacement cost including clothes and 2 moderately expensive bikes) and I have a general distrust for insurance to pay out, so I'm just looking to meet my landlord's requirement.

When I rented, I went through the same insurance as I had on my car. I don't remember what the rate was, but it was better than several others as they considered that a bundled policy.

I'd definitely recommend calling around to get a good idea.

Just out of curiosity - do you know for sure that your stamp collection will be covered under this policy (and if there are any limitation so this coverage)?  I have renters insurance, but there are certain exclusions.  I have no idea about stamps, but just wanted to bring it up.

You can get a rider even in renters insurance for extra special stuff, that's something to ask the agent... I have antique jewelry and my husband's extensive vinyl collection (with many rare records) that wouldn't have been covered so I added them into the policy. You just need to document what you have and keep the list/pics in a safe place (offsite) in case you have to make a claim.

Yes, it was covered. They indicated that I would need to retain all the bills indicating the cost / value of the items.

My mom will be visiting me towards the end of this month. I plan to send all the valuable stamps back with her for safekeeping ( in our  locker). They all fit in a small folder.
