Rapid Rewards points with two Southwest cards
« on: January 10, 2017, 06:00:33 PM »
Last spring I opened the Southwest Plus card and earned the 50,000 signup bonus. Now, I am considering opening up a SW Premier card.

I still have around 10,000 rapid rewards point that I earned from the Plus card.

My question is, if I open up the Premier card and earn the 50,000 signup bonus, will those points post to my current rapid rewards account, or be placed in a new rapid rewards account?

Thanks!

You are given the chance to enter your Rapid Rewards number when you sign up for a new card, otherwise they would create a new number for you.  So put in your number and they'll all be in one account.

Perfect!

If I were to cancel one or both of the cards before using the RR points that I earned from the sign-up bonus, would I be at risk of losing some or all of the RR points? I am assuming not, but I wanted to double check. I'd likely apply for the Premier, cancel the Plus, and then after completing the sign-up bonus on the Premier, cancel that too. However, I will likely not have used all of the points by that time.

Your miles are linked to your Southwest account, not your credit card.  However, if you have no activity for 24 months, the points will expire.

There are a few ways to create activity:  Book a flight, use a Southwest credit card for any charge, or go through the Rapid Rewards shopping mall and make a purchase (https://rapidrewardsshopping.southwest.com/).

I know United will notify you by email if you get close to having your miles expire, but not sure if Southwest does the same.
