Quintessential MMM Blogpost
« on: January 10, 2020, 07:22:25 AM »
If you were going to only recommend one MMM post that captures the philosophy of MMM about anti-consumerism, frugalism = freedom, not sacrifice but living your best life, etc.  Which one would it be?

My pick for top  MMM post is one  posted by Mr. Money Mustache himself.

I don't recall its exact specifics.

It had something to do  with delaying gratification and/or decreasing satisfaction after purchasing something not really needed.

It consisted of a  a sketch w/  stick figures and IIRC, a decreasing function.

The ‘Zero to Hero’ one...

In fact, he explicitly states that he wanted this post to summarize and links to all the details of the philosophy -

I’m writing this post to use as kind of a permanent “Hello!”, since at any given moment in time, about half of the readers of this blog are pretty new, and casting around wondering where to start on a giant site like this with over 500 published articles.

"The Shockingly Simple Math . . . " post is great for summarizing the simplicity of what it takes to become FI, and therefore why frugality can be so powerful.

From a MMM philosophy perspective, I like this one:
If You Think This is About Extreme Frugality, You’re Missing The Point

A lot of people can see the numbers on paper but still have trouble getting over the emotional hurdle. This post clearly decouples spending/materialism from happiness.

As a runner-up, I like this one for similar reasons:
What is Hedonic Adaptation and How Can it Turn You Into a Sucka?

The ‘Zero to Hero’ one...

That was one of my first thoughts.

Good suggestions.  I decided to use the hedonic adaptation one.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
