Question for Coloardo Solar Customers
« on: October 18, 2018, 09:09:25 AM »
I am trying to figure out my Xcel energy bill.  It has recently changed for me and has become convoluted and hard to read.  I am sure this is intended on Xcel’s part to confuse the solar customers.  I am going to call them but I wanted to see if anyone else with solar has noticed this change and understands it.

A new charge has started appearing on my bill within the last couple of months called:
Rollover credit excess.  Last month it was $7.99.  This month it is $43.88.  It also happens to be the month that Xcel pays out the Saver Switch Credit of $40.  This new charge essentially wipes out the saver switch credit.  Convenient.
In years past, I was actually getting a negative credit on my bill when I received the $40.

Does anyone know what this change is?

Hmm, I moved out of Colorado last year, but when I lived in Colorado I had solar panels and Xcel and never had that issue. Do you own or lease your solar panels? Is it possible the charge is a true-up (i.e., your bill was lowered based on your estimated solar production but the panels produced less than the estimate?

We own the panels so I dont think there is any kind of True-up.   We consistently make more than we use.  We are even more energy conscious since getting solar :)
I know there was some changes earlier in the year with Xcel and the solar industry and net metering..... (They are mad they didnt get in on the ground floor 20-30 years ago) that I am sure has something to do with it.

Credit usually indicates they owe you money. Charge would indicate an extra fee/usage. Are you positive it's a bill for that amount and it's not just tracking how much Xcel "owes" you?
