Quantum Computing -- Anyone in the industry?
« on: May 05, 2015, 09:53:25 AM »
We've had some recent discussion on the forum regarding robotics and AI that were very interesting.

I was reading a tad about quantum computing and this would appear to be a natural step towards AI.

Anyone here currently working in that realm or have some interesting insights?

There's a quantum computing industry?    News to me ;)

I'm just joking around b/c as far as I'm aware the research is super far from any product actually being developed.   There are many technologies that are being explored as alternatives to traditional computing, but I'm not sure that quantum computing is the most far along.

Personally, this is my own favorite possibility for alternative computing technology: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2014/06/11/hp-plans-to-launch-memristor-silicon-photonic-computer-within-the-decade/   However, really who knows which (if any) alternative computing technology will wind up taking off.  Right now, IME, most are pretty far from competing with CMOS.

Judging by the lightning speed with which some posters are routinely able to read, digest, and articulate well-reasoned responses to lengthy posts before the average human can even begin to scan the screen for a superficial skim-read (let alone process the content and come up with a reply), I have concluded that some posters may not work in the industry, but are the product of the industry.

Well now that is some interesting stuff.
