Possible to auto pay credit card?
« on: October 05, 2016, 09:25:48 AM »
I only have one credit card (my first) and it is not through my bank (Chase). To pay off my credit card, I have to call the number on the back of the card and tell them to withdraw the money from my Chase account. I can't set up auto payments or even make payments online.  It's a pain.

Does every credit card make you do this? If I get a credit card through Chase (my bank) can I setup auto payments? Or if I want a citi card (I'm not a Citibank customer) can I still do auto payments?

Thanks for help... I'm a total credit card noob.

That sounds really bizzare. I have 3 (Discover, AmEx, and Visa through Chase, with whom I don't bank) and all 3 have websites, online payments, and autopay. I don't use the autopay, but I know it's there.

You do have to set up an online account with each company (username, password) but that's just tied to the card, not banking.

I have a Chase card and it's very possible to set up auto monthly payments (for either last statement balance, minimum, or a specific amount).

I have Chase, Citi, Capital One, Barclay, Discover, Target, and Amex.  All are very easy to set up for auto pay from any US bank.

The only painful one was TD Bank (which I canned).  I never could get auto pay set up (they kept mailing me forms to fill out, which were rejected with no reason given), but I could log in monthly and have them draft it.

I've never, even before computers were ubiquitous, had a credit card that I couldn't, at a minimum, mail in a check.

Why can't you use Chase online bill pay??  https://www.chase.com/online/digital/online-bill-pay.html

I pay almost all my bills online - been doing it for years. No checks, envelopes or stamps.  And it has an easy to use record of all past payments.
In fact, I've been doing it so long that the last time I paid a bill with a check in an envelope (I didn't want to bother setting up a 'payee' in my online banking for a single payment) the payment came back to me because I put the bill in the envelope backwards and so the address wasn't the 'window'.   I ended up paying a late fee!!

Who is the issuer of the cc?  Like geekette every cc I have has the option to set up auto pay by going (once) to the cc account on line.

All mine I can log into the cc accounts and set up automatic payment (Min payment, full payment, etc).

Maybe time to shop around for your second credit card.

Yeah im gonna do that. I'll probably go with the citi 2x points card. I just want something easy for my everyday card.
