Finding Job in New City
« on: June 19, 2019, 07:20:55 PM »
I was recently laid-off from a long term, grinding job.  It was the best possible outcome and has really forced me to do some hard thinking around what I want to do with the rest of my life, and prioritize what I value.  I now find myself deep into FIRE territory (due to frugal living and the exit package from MegaCorp).  I have small children (all under the age of ten) and really want to make a step change in our life for the better.  I want my kids to grow up with certain opportunities - ample time outdoors, moderate travel, good education opportunities (schools, museum trips library, etc..). With all of that we are assessing where we want to live based on the below criteria:

- within proximity to the outdoors (think camping, hiking, cycling).
- trying to avoid large metroplex areas, however still be within a 2 hours of an airport. The far burbs of a major city would be ok, assuming job is also located in the area
- Good school system and community
- Walkable/bikeable  (spent a good part of me previous life in traffic)

Towards the end of my time with MegaCorp, I started to learn how to better manage stress and enjoy what I do (general business/finance).  Although I probably don't need to, I would like to get back into the workforce for the right opportunity.  I feel like I should find a job to move for (vs. just moving without anything lined up) however I am lost with where to begin as much of my network is not in places that fit the criteria above.  Job boards have not generated much of any results so far.

Any thoughts or advise the MMM community can offer up?  Greatly appreciate any input..

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
