Phone replacement suggestions
« on: September 18, 2019, 07:37:01 PM »
I have a first gen Moto G, Republic Wireless. It has lasted 5 years, but I need to move on (and away from RW). Every month or two I have to clear the cache, it only has 8 gig. And Republic Wireless has been spotty, I have one friend I have to turn off wifi to call to him, as an example. I will say the price has always been good, averaging about $13.50 a month from RW.

I use my phone for Outlook from work, Gmail, WhatsApp for a social group, some texting and not much else. I have better ways to take photos. I am happy to stay in the Android world. Probably going to Mint Mobile, so I will need channel 12? Any suggestions on which phone?

Oh, and this phone is how I found MMM, I was looking for suggestions on an inexpensive phone and it led me here. So that saved me thousands!

I'm not an expert, but I have been looking to replace an old Moto on Republic and also want to change carriers.  I'm looking at the Samsung A50 for $275, but it sounds like that's overkill for you.  The thing that makes it relevant to your question is that I'm looking to buy it at BHPhoto because they offer a 3-month credit with Mint Mobile and they offer the cheaper A-series phones like the A10 ($135) and A20 ($160).  At a quick glance it looks to me like the A20 is worth the extra $25 (3GB vs. 2GB RAM, larger battery, quick charging, fingerprint sensor, and more) They value the 3 months of free service with Mint at $60.  I will probably also look at the Moto G7, and for a lower price a G6 (either new or used) or even G5 would be a significant upgrade, but at this price point to me the 3 months of free service would make a new phone hard to pass up.

I'd suggest Google Fi, with Moto G6 for $99.

I got a new Moto G6 for $99 to replace my old Moto.  I got the first one in 2012 when I went to RW (Moto E, I think), replaced in 2015 with Moto G3 when I started to really use internet apps.  The G3 battery was not holding a charge well, so I took advantage of the Prime day sale on the G6.  All three were $100-150, and I have been happy with them.

I'm currently on Sprint's $25 unlimited plan.
