Lost a side gig, and couldnt be happier
« on: June 12, 2017, 08:48:43 AM »
So congrats to me, I think.  I lost a sidegig that was paying me close to about 4,000 a year.  I am a teacher and I was serving as the elected faculty rep (union), basically the person who meets with our leadership team and shares concerns that staff has.  The stipend is approx 4,000 a year.  I have done the job for 3 years, and it took a lot of time and energy.  For example, people were texting me with issues while I was on paternity leave.  Anyways I lost my re-election bid.  It stung initially, because I did put a lot into it, but it was extremely cathartic to let it go.  It's hard dealing with people who are stressed and unhappy.  I no longer have to "own" other peoples issues. I can simply offer support if needed, but it is no longer my job to try and fix.  I probably wouldn't have given it up voluntarily.  The money was nice, but I don't need.

So congrats to me, I think! :)

Great job surviving that initial sting and then reframing the matter :)

I had a similar experience with a contract. I had created and developed the project, a third party asked for a partnership in which they would pay me (woohoo!), then they stole the whole thing (argh). But once I'd gotten through the emotional ouch, I was tickled to not have that particular work anymore! I have a much, much, much sweeter side gig now.
