Personal Capital - buzz kill
« on: November 08, 2015, 06:49:58 PM »
So I've been trying to convince my spouse for a while that we should try out Personal Capital because of all the raving about it here on the forum and on other personal finance blogs.  He was hesitant because of the concern about handing over our passwords, etc.  But I finally convinced him since there are 850,000 other satisfied users.

Now I'm going through the process and finding it to be seriously lacking.

The bank with which he have almost all our equity holdings with is not an option to link with.

The bank that holds our mortgage isn't an option to link with Personal Capital.

Our primary bank for our savings and checking accounts and credit cards, a quite mainstream bank, is 'having some trouble linking.'

So right now PC is reflecting basically just my 401k, and that's all.

FAIL.

Has anyone else had these problems?  I feel like I've mostly only read good reviews of PC.  Am I missing something?  Hand-jamming the account info from these other accounts (most of which are variable based on stock market, paying off mortgage, etc) defeats the entire purpose, it seems.

back to the spreadsheet method, updated twice a year...

If you end up manually updating things anyway you should take a look at GnuCash.

Same issue. I can't link the bulk of my investments in PC. Repeated requests to add them have been ignored.

I'm sticking with Mint for now.

Yep you're definitely not alone.
My Mint won't recognize/can't find my Vanguard account.
My Personal Capital won't recognize my TradeKing or student loan (Nelnet) accounts.

Would be fabulous if one or the other would capture everything for a change.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
