Pay for Cable Monthly?
« on: January 08, 2014, 06:40:31 PM »
Does anyone know if you are able to pay for cable for only a single month?

The DW wants to be able to watch the major Tennis Opens, and is willing to not have cable on the 'off' months if we can get the coverage only when The US/Aussie/French opens and Wimbledon are on.

Australian Open
Dates: 13 – 26 January 2014
French Open
Dates: 25 May – 8 June 2014
Wimbledon Championships
Dates: 23 June – 6 July 2013
US Open
Dates: 25 August – 8 September 2014

What is the best way to see these events?  Are there any good services that one could subscribe to for ONLY the tennis?  Is it possible to get a cable package for only one month / span of time at a time?  Looking at my cable bill, it looks like my 'billing' date is the 21st.  Does that represent the start/end of service, or is that always on the 1st of the month?

Aren't these on regular TV?  Can't you get an HD receivers rom Best Buy for about $20 and watch these on NBC for free?

Also look into connecting your computer to your tv and see if you can steam the early round matches.

Take a look at your bill. The billing date is when your bill prints out. Usually 10 days after that date is when your billing cycle starts. Let's say your bill date is 1/5/14. Your billing cycle would be 1/15-2/14. Or you can check out your bill and see if there's anything on there that shows a period for services rendered, something like 1/1-1/31 that would be your billing cycle.

Anyway, are you asking if you can get cable for one month, cancel it and get it again? As long as you're not under contract for anything, you can make changes.

I would just ask your local cable provider(s). I have a co-worker that got cable just during the World Cup. He's from England, and doesn't watch television generally, but it was no problem for them to hook him up for a month or whatever.

My wife loves tennis, too. She got herself a Roku recently and says that there is a channel on there that will allow her to watch tennis opens. She thinks most of them are on there, if not all. Also, there is some coverage online.

I'm watching Venus Williams play in the Australian Open right now on my laptop--for free.  On Watch ESPN.

I'd love to hear more info about tennis on the roku. I think I could convince my parents to ditch cable if I could find a way for my mom to watch tennis.
