I wasn't sure what to do, so I put my funds in a money market account first.  When I finally took the plunge for index funds, I transferred the money from the money market and in the process, earned 2 cents for redeeming it.

I'm confused though.  Did they actually send you a physical check?  I've never had that happen before with Vanguard when trading in my taxable account.

Yes, a physical check.

Perhaps it's due to not waiting so long to exchange funds.  I waited only about a week before deciding which fund to invest in, but in those 7 days, I became a 2-center from the money market account.  :-)

Somehow related to the topic, but can't you get a physical check sent to you when you receive dividends?  Options are to reinvest, electronic transfer to a bank account or a physical check?

Oh.  To clarify, the money market account was with Vanguard, too.

I suppose so, but why would you want a physical check?  I would rather receive the dividends in the account and then ACH to my checking account as necessary.

Seriously though we should all come and beat you over the head. The cost involved in sending you that check was deducted from everyone else's accounts.

I signed up for electronic everything.  This check was a complete surprise to me.  I should frame it though to mark the beginning of a hopefully bountiful Vanguard relationship.

Fair play, my club stands ready for the next silly situation that is posted up here.

Many investment houses have rules about low balance accounts. Some donate it to charity, some put it back into the general pot allocated to everyone else. Never until now have I heard of 2c been paid out.

Ha!  Even when I was a kid, candy bars were a nickel.  You would have to cash three of those checks to buy one.  But now you have an opportunity to give someone your two cents on something...

A couple days ago, I received a check in the mail.  It was from the company who had handled the second mortgage (a very bad pre-MMM decision) on my house.  I paid off that loan at the end of June 2013.  The check I received last week was an escrow refund in the amount of........THREE CENTS!!!!  I bet the folks at Capitol One will have a good chuckle if I take a picture of it and deposit it into my account there.
