Online English tutoring. Anyone?
« on: January 25, 2014, 01:53:11 PM »
When DH and I lived in Japan, I did a ton of conversational English teaching.  Though I am not a teacher by training, it is the best job I've ever had.  I absolutely adored it.  I've heard of people doing this online, and I think it would be a great job for me, and I do have some experience, but I am having trouble finding reputable companies that do this.  By chance does anyone have any leads or suggestions?

Look into Smarthinking.com

A lot of colleges are using it for both online and traditional classes, and I mean real, public colleges, not the online-only diploma mills (they may use it too, for all I know).

Sorry.  I guess I wasn't clear.  I'm looking to teach English (or more accurately, practice English) with non-native speakers.  Many Japanese do this as a hobby, or businessmen do it for work purposes.

That domain looks to be just a link factory, but based on your description, if it ever was up and running, it probably isn't what I'm looking for.  I wouldn't mind tutoring kids or helping with college essays, but that's not what I'm hoping to locate.

It's not a link factory; it's a tutoring service from Pearson, and  I checked the link just before I hit 'send' as well as just now. But it's not for non-native speakers, either, so it's not what you're looking for.

Editing to add: perhaps you retyped it and put in two 't's instead of the one I posted? That gets a link factory, which IMO Pearson would be well-served to purchase.

That's exactly what I did!  Sorry, and thank you!

No problem. I still don't think it's exactly what you're looking for, but it does a whole lot of business, so it may be worth looking into.
