I have a prejudice against using any card with an annual fee.
I used to feel this way and then I really read up on the travel hacking stuff. Now I keep a detailed spreadsheet of CC expenses (annual fees) and cash value of rewards redeemed. Last update: $1425 spent on annual fees, $8287.03 in redeemed rewards, which does NOT include any cashback cards (I wanted to show myself that it was better than regular cashback cards).

Net: $6862.03

Once my spending is done on the MasterCard I'll probably get an AMEX Bonvoy

Oo, I wish I'd thought of that a week ago. But I just retired and I think I no longer meet the annual earning requirement.

But I just applied anyway and they gave it to me! Thanks!
As far as I know none of the amex cards have income requirements.

Wow, you're right! I must have slept through that change.

Now I have three months to get through the minimum spend for all the credit cards I applied for just before retiring...

There's a churning thread in the Canadian tax section of this site.  I recommend Prince of Travel for advice on navigating this area.
