New member from Bay Area, CA
« on: June 29, 2017, 03:31:35 PM »
Hi everyone,

Just join this forum. Seems like bunch of nice people working towards the same goal.

I live in the Bay Area with 3 kids under 8yo so juggling everything is tough especially trying to FIRE at the same time.

Anyways just wanted to say hi.

Welcome! Bay Area here too with one 8-year-old. A lot of good life philosophy here.

Welcome! I'm not Bay Area, but down in San Diego, another HCOL area anyway. There is a good forum for those of us with kids (mine are 16, 7, and 5), so you should pop in down there. :)

Hi jil.
I grew up in SD. My folks still live there so I visit them. My ideal retirement location :)

I grew up on the Peninsula and loved it there. Of course, when I had to pay for my own place to live I ran about as far as I could from that economy. Some people make it work there, but the housing prices were just too much for me.

Greetings! North bay here. Agree that it can be tough to FIRE here, but it is doable.

I'm in the Bay Area as well. 2 kids both under 4. Grew up in SF and recently moved from the Peninsula to Dublin. There are lots  of folks here from the Bay Area!

Cool.  Are you Klay Thompson?  I hear his dad set him up to invest wisely and spend within a mustacian (for an NBA all star) budget, plus he promotes budget Chinese shoes and seems to hike east bay trails with his dog as his rec (free entertainment yo!). Both my parents were WSU Cougs.

But i digress.  Bay area MMM Forum member here too.  Live a block from Luke Waltons former house.

You're from the Bay Area Pizza Steve? Do you sell those delicious pizzas?!

Welcome! We are in the Peninsula and have lived pretty much everywhere around the Bay between the two of us, with exception of the far-flung corners. One toddler and one (hopefully, knock on wood) on the way. Let us know if you have any specific questions.

I find I have to take it all in here, treasure the good bits, and ignore all the bits that just aren't relevant to our cost of living situation. Every time someone throws out advice of "move to a LCOL area!" I just internally shake my head and think "but then I'd have to live in a LCOL area, and who wants that? I'd rather keep working." :)

Cool.  Are you Klay Thompson?  Hm, if WSU couger born in 1994....nope...too young or if thatbis grad year, too old.

Speaking of famous bay area cougers, I hear his dad set him up to invest wisely and spend within a mustacian (for an NBA all star) budget, plus he promotes budget Chinese shoes and seems to hike east bay trails with his dog as his rec (free entertainment yo!). Both my parents were WSU Cougs.

But i digress.  Bay area MMM Forum member here too.  Live a block from Luke Waltons former house.

I wish I was but I am about as hard core of a Cougar fan as you will find.  I have met Klay a couple times at events and he is MMM all the way.  Lives in a tiny apartment with his dog and lives a pretty simple life.  I am a 3rd generation Cougar as my Grandfather and both of my Parents graduated from there.  Yes, I graduated in 1994......way too old.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Somehow the forum was not alerting me of new posts.

I will probably make a new post on this but due to some change in the work situation, I haven't been very happy a work lately. I may just quit and look for a new job. I have the funds and my wife is on board so I'll just go for it. I have been working for the same company for a very long time so I'll probably take some time to decompress first though :)

Wish me luck!

Having those funds available that allow you to take your time finding something else is so valuable. Good for you and good luck with the search.

Yes ysette9. I can't thank my young self enough for building this fund for the rainy day.

Curious but are there any MMM meet ups in the Bay Area?
