We were supposed to go out of town for Thanksgiving, but a winter storm prevented us.
You could say that's a bummer, nothing for which to be thankful. In reality, though, we left the house and tried to make it to our destination . . . and partway into the trip we realized that it just wasn't wise, called to say we wouldn't be making it, and turned around. I am VERY, VERY THANKFUL that we made it home without incident. We had one nasty slide: The car turned sideways, and we were sliding downhill completely out of control. Thank goodness the people coming the other way saw us and stopped. We didn't even speak, though it seemed to happen in slow motion -- we were all watching, holding our breath, just waiting for the crash, just waiting to see how bad it would be . . . but it didn't come. We stopped. No thanks to any skill or action on our part. Just pure luck, just God watching out for us.
Yes, even though I didn't plan to be home, didn't buy Thanksgiving food for my family, I am VERY, VERY THANKFUL that we are safely home in our own house, and my car is safely parked in my own driveway.
