MyEnergy.com: the Mint of home energy consumption?
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:06:23 AM »
Does anyone use myenergy.com?  I just became aware of it through an email I received from Nest (the thermostat maker).  Apparently Nest acquired MyEnergy a few months ago.  It sounds like one of MyEnergy's features is basically the equivalent of mint.com for home energy consumption, consolidating information from all of your utilities into one dashboard.  I just signed up and my data hasn't finished loading (it says it could take up to 8 hours), but it sounds like this could be a very useful tool for tracking energy usage.  (Their promotional materials seem to bill the ability to compare your utility bills to others' as the site's primary feature, but I am more interested in simply tracking and analyzing my own energy data.)

Please let us know what happens when the data loads. I'm interested in hearing more about it.

What I can report so far is that the account-adding process is not as smooth as Mint's.  It took several hours for MyEnergy to tell me "there's a problem" connecting to each of my gas company account and my water company account.  It's still trying to connect to my electric company account.

I got mine set up without any problem. It did take a while though.
