Mustachian (or Anti-Mustachian) Comics
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:51:17 PM »
I find all the time I run across comics that fit my idea of Mustachianism (or are tongue-in-cheek satire anti-Mustachianism), and are humorous and/or inspiring.  I'm sure you all do as well, so how about we start sharing them?

In this thread, post a link to Mustachian/anti-Mustachian comics - whatever that means to you. (An individual comic is preferred, rather than a link to a strip in general.)

The writers of SMBC are some of the smartest people I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

They just happen to show their brilliance in a disguised manner through comics.  (Futurama does this on a much smaller level.)

Some of their religion ones are ridiculously clever.

I need to get into SMBC. Maybe I'll start reading this lazy Sunday. Here's a Joy of Tech post on keeping up with the (Internet) Joneses:

They have a long dormant podcast, but they also appear with some regularity on Science... Sort Of. The information density may be high enough that you wouldn't find it as dull as a regular podcast, and all the panelists are incredibly witty.

I have a good one but I can't figure out how to put it in a message. Does it have to be online already to link to it, or can I upload it from my desktop?

You can upload it.  Click "reply," then hit the plus sign next to "Attachments and other options" under the text box, then choose an attachment from your computer.

Damn you for mentioning SMBC, I was trying to build up a stockpile of unread comics so I could binge.

I actually view Dilbert as a mustachian comic. It reminds me how lucky I am not to work in an office.

arebelspy, I think you might have seen that in my signature line. Also, Calvin & Hobbes may have subliminally biased me towards cycling (I've only had a bike for a week and I love it) - Calvin's Dad's only hobby was cycling.

Did I mention I LOVE Calvin and Hobbes? I think that's where I got my wry sense of humor. Here's a good one that could be considered relevant:

Calvin and Hobbes shaped me quite a bit as well, read all of them growing up.  There are many Mustachian ones.  Similar to the sandwich one:

These aren't funny per se, but they have been a great educational resouce for my kids: https://www.newyorkfed.org/publications/result.cfm?comics=1

For some reason, my eldest is particularly obsessed with them.  When she was 6 we were returning from running errands with her reading one of these comics in the backseat and as we pulled into the driveway of the house she looked at me and asked (with furrowed brow), "Daddy, why don't people save?"

I have always loved Calvin and Hobbes. This is a long time favorite. Bill Watterson's quote from the 10th Anniversary Book was "People will pay for what they want. Not what they need."
