Title: Man I'm at a lost of words....I think I hit the end of MMM
Post by: Duke03 on July 12, 2017, 11:56:47 PM
No shit hear me out for a few.  I buy a lot of cars.  Not cars for myself but cars for family, friends, coworkers ect.  See I love to negotiate and its a long art that is slowly being written out of society.  Any ways a little info.  For anyone I know that wants a Ford I have a great relationship with a certain dealer and they let me negotiate for the actual buyer who tells me what they want ect ect.  When I get the numbers right I then bring them in to sign every thing and make sure they don't get ripped off at the last second.  Any ways I contacted the same sales man I've bought over 20 cars with in the last 1 years.  You want to know what his reply to me was.  Hint he wasn't happy to see me.  He replied to me in a text that he was pretty tired of getting beat up every time I try to do a deal with me.  He claims I make him lower it to much and they lose money lol.  So basically he claimed that even though he has made tons of money off my process that he'd rather deal with a smuck that walks in and will pay sticker price.

It blow my mind that he basically called me the king of negotiation and that I made him work to hard......

I should show everything to his boss and have his ass fired but I'm not that kind of guy.  Instead I drove an extra 30 miles and saved $1000.  Guess who will get all my business going forward.  They are even going to pay me more for my services.

I dunno. You have to leave enough in a deal for the other guy, or you won't do another deal. I guess that's where you've found yourself. No skin off you nose, though, just go somewhere else as you have done.

That sounds like a weird ass complaint from your previous salesman. If they weren't making money they shouldn't have agreed to the previous sales.

Oh well their loss.

Agree. I mean, it's great if you're taking old-hard-to-move stock off their hands, but if they're losing money all the time they could always just say no to you.

And also don't understand why this has to do with end of MMM.

It's just some humblebrag about how awesome they are and used a clickbait title to get more attention.  Strange, but I guess this makes them happy some how.

Do you shop around at all?  I mean how do you know you are getting such great deals?

Some people love to crow about how great they are at negotiating on cars.  The whole dealership process is set up to gratify this fantasy.

Complaining that the customer is "ripping them off" is a stock negotiating tactic for salesmen.  I've heard it practically every time I've gone in to buy a car.  If the deal did not at least somehow leave the dealer and the sales person better off, the car would not be sold. Period. End of story.

This.  You've reached the sales price when the sales manager (with final say) walks over and says, "Listen, I'm making a couple hundred bucks on this sale, take it or leave it." That's the floor. Getting there is not difficult at all and doesn't take some maestro of negotiation.

Have you thought of making a business of this?

My friend does this, he takes 25% of the savings between the price you negotiate at and what gets you.  If he saves you a grand on a car, you pay him $250 and save $750.

He has been FIRE'd for close to a decade and does it for a bit of fun and beer money...

Yeah, I feel like the last salesmen I just bought my new mini-van from would never work with me again. Half way through negotiation I ask him to bring the manager of the whole place by so I can just negotiate with him instead. He was not a fan of that, but I did get 8,000 off (negotiated high trade-in value too). He did not talk to me much after the manager and I shook hands, but the manager was the one to approve price drops so the salesmen seemed worthless to me.

I worked in a car dealership years ago. Different salespeople have different amounts of latitude on deals, but the two dealerships I know of the sales manager always had to sign off on it. So unless things have radically changed, you are really always up against the sales manager. And the part about buying at the end of the month was true for us, there was a quota salespeople were trying to fulfill, deals they won't look at the first couple of weeks they may take in the last couple of days of a month.
