low cost/high value christmas gifts
« on: November 26, 2014, 05:28:21 PM »
Feels like I should wait a few more days before posting...

I like to give, hate to spend. Any suggestions for gifts?

I make cookies for neighbors/friends. I've done homemade vanilla, orange, and peppermint extracts, coupled with recipes. I've crocheted fruits and veggies for kidlets.

Throw me some new ideas.

Last year most of the gifts I bought were second hand: vintage video games for my son and a Royal Doulton figurine for my mom.

I'm also using reward points to buy Xmas gifts this year.

I'm making ice cider right now, but it won't be ready in time for this Christmas... maybe an idea for next year. We picked and pressed our own (free) apples, but honestly the cost of fresh cider is well worth it, because pressing is a ton of work. Then, just freeze in the jug, invert to drip off the syrup (repeat until it's concentrated enough?), and brew more or less like wine.

I have inverted bottles dripping right now. It's a fairly labour-intensive process, but interesting.

Theoretically "free/minimal cost" gifts, except for your time, make great little booklet type gifts.

"This card good for one night of free babysitting, so you grownups can get your freak on."
"This card good for one free car wash at my house, bring your own beer if you wanna watch."
"This card good for one free homemade pizza, and a home brewed beer."

They can be as out there as the person you're giving them to:

"This card good for one free rant about how much of an asshole your current boy/girlfriend is."
"This card valid for one "talk me down off the ledge/don't let me buy that pricey whatever" (booze extra).
"This card valid for one free nekkid massage."
