The timing seemed great. Bonus card offers near the beginning of the year. Our disabled daughter, living almost independently. My husband and I were finally going to start traveling together, including the business trips he takes several times a year.

And now this. We cancelled the first trip, because the risk of getting stuck in a quarantine away from our kid was too much. I got the news that his next business trip was cancelled just now. Who knows when traveling will make sense again. My husband and I are both in higher risk groups

Should we cut our losses, cancel the Rapid Rewards card, and go back to using a free card with more point value? It wouldn't be completely wasted, since we'd still get to use the points eventually, and they don't expire.

We didn't get the business card, so we would still have to spend a *lot* more to earn the pass. That seemed fairly easy when we were going to be traveling.

You picked this week to sign up for the southwest cc??  You didn't see this coming for the past few weeks?

No, that was a joke from "Airplane." I got the card about 6 weeks ago.

So you're still sniffing glue then?

Another option is to get the business card as well, I think between the two you can get the companion pass just on spend and bonus points and hopefully take advantage of it later this and next year when the panic dies down.

I signed up for the SW RR card about 6 weeks ago too - so I hear you! I will definitely keep my card even if I don't use it for quite some time. This too will pass. Eventually.

Go ahead and get the companion pass.  It's good for this year and next, right?  Hard to know the long term impact of the virus.   Could have a year+ impact until vaccine developed.   Or could have a much lower death rate (South Korea has .7% death rate at least in part because they've tested more people with minor cases) and be calm(ish) bu July.

Southwest points bo longer expire so worst case is you have points for the future.

Bourbon - sniffing more glue than ever! Also drinking, smoking, and taking amphetamines!

We don't have anything we could justify as a business, and I'm also pretty sure we're past 5/24. I was kinda surprised my husband got this card, tbh. The trick, apparently, is to get the business card first, but that ship has sailed.

We're about two thirds there, maybe more. But without my husband's reimbursed travel expenses, I dunno if it's going to be possible.

A companion pass? What is it?

Buy one, get one for all flights on southwest. You have to designate your companion and they have to pay the taxes ($5.60 for domestic flights) but it's a fantastic deal! Me and my wife have been swapping who gets it every 2 years, we just sign up for 2 credit cards each time (and cancel when the fee comes due)

If by any chance you are under 5/24, there are many who don't have anything that qualifies as a business and still get business cards.

Yup like me. I used my name as my business name and picked "sole proprietorship" and I got one.
I got both cards. Need to spend about $2k on the personal for the other 35K points.
So I got 135K + 8k(spending) + 10k(refer my friend). Over 150k points for me and the wife till end of 2021.

OP. I would try and get the business card for the easy 60k to get pass the 125k companion pass barrier.
I'm assuming you only have 75k from the personal card. Another 50k points is awefully hard.

It's good for the current year you own it (all of 2020) and for the following calendar year as well (2021)
