Looking for a roommate via Craigslist and...
« on: March 01, 2019, 10:08:38 AM »
So, I'm trying to save money and secure a living situation for July. Two people are more competent than all the others that have contacted me... and they are attractive females. This is making it difficult - there's no way I can live with them even though they have the best heads on their shoulders. Wow. Did I just find the alternative to dating apps?

Maybe they are just looking for a room to rent and are not in any way interested in anything else? Whatsoever.

If you don't think you could handle it, I don't think you should, for their sake!

I do agree. Just catching me by surprise.

I'm not gonna lie, your comment that this might be a good alternative to dating apps sounds rather off, especially since afaik neither of these women have expressed any dating interest, only being roommates.  If you think you can be a good roommate to them (and not hit on them or act in other uncomfortable ways), then I wish you the best of luck in securing a good and frugal living situation.  If not, then maybe consider putting "men only" in your roommate seeking ads.

This. Plus, if you are attracted to them, you may be inclined to not see their potential faults, like paying on time, etc. Find yourself some male roommates.

I sort of meant this post to be more lighthearted and sarcastic, but it appears no one picks that up. Feel free to delete this (eyeroll).

I get that you were mostly cracking a joke, but to be totally (and unfortunately) honest, there are really people out there who hold that exact belief-- and there's no way through the imperfect medium of text to tell you apart from the creepos who lock a roommate into a lease and spend all day making creepy comments about "alternate ways to pay rent" or actually harassing or actually assaulting them.

If you make a smart quip and it lands poorly, it's worthwhile to consider why.  We all make jokes that don't go over well or offend people, it's just realizing that hey, that wasn't great, that makes the difference.

That said, if you do want input or celebratory noises on landing a great roommate possibly despite being attracted to them and/or any advice on making sure you're screening for good roommates to help your FIRE stash, we're all ears.

And you get to pull their credit score. That's probably more informative than most of the stuff posted on dating apps. ;-)

Hmm, that make me wonder if anyone has a dating app with credit scores... yep:

I didn’t think you meant this “lighthearted and sarcastic” because of some of your other posts. It sounds like you are now backtracking. I understand that the thought may have crossed your mind, which is not weird but acting on it would be potentially a big mistake or maybe you will find what you are looking for. Who knows...
