Living the life without FIRE money
« on: May 17, 2017, 10:28:58 AM »
I posted this elsewhere and haven't got any comment.
Here's a young lady full of adventure, very excited about her
lifestyle and fun to watch. I have seen three of her videos so far.
I think she has about 50 videos of here life.
I think this one shows her spirit, but others actually show her on the road living the adventure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKhf_XarJmE
I found her very inspirational.

I'm happy to see someone respond, I was very inpressed with her camera presence and also,
she must spend a lot of time editing her videos. Some are very well done.
I was disappointed when 100 people read my post but none responded.

Very cool. I'm so envious of Millenials that just go out and enjoy life. I think if I was young again, I'd likely take a different path. This is something I would have done, I used to live for adventure too. My son has often joked about doing something similar to this young girl. He currently owns a mini van and has said several times he's going to live by the river in his van. I sent him the SNL clip of Chris Farley attached.

I wish that her level of possessions appealed to me. That would make for a cheap FIRE. Good for her.

I suspect her personality makes it easier for her to get a job, and I see a work ethic in her
even though she may not have a 9 to 5 job. She has the drive to get her Youtube videos done and edited and in one video I see she has three online jobs she has to log in and do. But as long as she has internet access she can work.

What's she's doing obviously isn't much different than what dirtbag climbers or ski bums have done for a few generations before. Live cheap, possibly in a car. Get seasonal jobs to fund your very low level of spend. Do shit that you enjoy with the rest of your free time.

She's lucky or recognizes opportunity. Cute girls get a *LOT* more hits and subscriptions on youtube and insta than dirtbags living in vans do, with exceptions like Alex Honnold for instance.

Props to her, I hope she parlays this into a marketing gig, book deal, sponsorships, etc.. The biggest upside to a life like this is learning those critical 'figure it out on your own' skills in a way a lot of people on traditional tracks don't. The biggest downside is getting stuck like this and entering middle age or later.

You crazy hipster millennials!   ;)

Tons of channels like this on YouTube.   There's a beautiful Australian couple who sails around the south pacific and uploads videos of themselves eating poke, surfing, taking a dump on a boat (yes) , ect.    They are very wealthy because of it.   ;)

This is her job and she does good work and works hard at it.

Thanks for sharing this video. I haven't seen her other videos but this one was pretty good.

Hobo'ing and Internet seem such an oxymoron, but Welcome to the New World.

This couple lives in a more photogenic Vanagon and do lots of Instagram. They get LOTS of hits when a bikini is involved. And they've become mini celebs, some promo deals have come their way. It's an interesting way to live for sure.

Dude, there are loads of lurkers out there. I think you're taking this too personally. I have a journal. I think I have something like 3000 reads and less than 200 replies, which of course includes my own posts. (I'm making this up, I don't know the exact numbers, but I hope you get my drift.) It's all good. I hope sharing my story helps people in their FIRE journeys, but my story is my story and comments (or lack thereof) won't change any of it.

People don't have to comment to benefit from the information passed on. Speaking only for myself, I never saw your OP, so it was nice of you to try posting it again. I've blown almost 2 hours watching that and related videos today, so thanks, I think ;-)

I'm watching that video now and just wanted to comment on this bit, which I think is a really important insight (just around the five-minute mark).
"It was good because I felt like I was being more productive and I was getting things accomplished...however, it didn't fix my problem. It was kind of just making me so busy that I couldn't even think about my problem anymore but it didn't fix anything."
I think there's a lot of people who have been in this situation but never realise this.

Off to watch the rest now.

 LOL :-)  I think I'll survive!
I just thought people would get as big a kick from her as I did.

A few thoughts:

I applaud anyone who is willing to step out and do something unusual like this.

I like that she's not saying this is the right solution for everyone, but that it feels right for her.  She has great self-awareness.

I don't know her age, but she looks 20 with the sensibility of someone 30 or 35.
