Kinetico K5 Water Filter
« on: August 08, 2021, 11:59:16 AM »
Hey,

Looking into purchasing a Kinetico K5 water filter system.  Simply want the purest water possible for drinking as I work from home and drink a lot of water.  Anyone have experience with one?

When I had the guy out, he was trying to sell me on the water softener too.  Not really interested but I do have hard water and a Menards bought softener.  I do have some buildup on my faucets, which long term may make sense to get the Kinetico softener (less wear on appliances, less need for soap, etc).  Any thoughts one way or the other on this?

Thanks!

If your concern is high quality drinking water, you should set up your plumbing to drink water that isn't softened.  Calcium and Magnesium are replaced with sodium in a softener to protect your faucets and appliances from mineral build up, but your body prefers calcium and magnesium over sodium.

You need to compare what constituents are in your raw water to the constituents that the Kinetico K5 RO system will put into your water and see if there is any benefit to you.

What raw water sampling have you done? What exactly are you trying to remove?

The water in our area has some pretty nasty chemicals in it so we purchased a berkey water filter. https://www.berkeyfilters.com/collections/berkey-water-filter-systems

You do have to manually fill it but we have been pretty happy with the performance.  I don't have any experience with the Kinetico so I can't compare the two options.
